Yeah case in point GHB, drug companies threw a few dollars around for "research" and got it FDA approved in less than 4 years less I think, and took no time ($$$$) to get the government to take it off the shelves.

Again I think this all boils down to professional athletics -- which kind of leaves out professional BB.  Everyone pretty much has an understanding that BB's use drugs to advance their physiques -- no real secret here.  But, BB's generally have to most advanced knowledge of nutrition / supplementation as well.  Almost every athlete I have worked with / talked to uses supplements to some degree.  And, the supplements do work -- protein, creatine, ECA (when you could get it).  In the sport of BB you have more of an even playing field -- you never are going to have competitors making cheating accusations due to AAS use (or anything else for that matter).

It is really with mainstream professional athletics were the problems arise -- baseball, football etc.  The people are faced with multi-year contracts worth million and millions of dollars, not to mention other very lucrative endorsement deals.  It is within these arenas where drug use is not understood by the general poplulation.  And, on top of that if an athlete does choose to use AAS or other drugs while others are not and it breaks the rules it really is cheating.
