They say you love it or hate it and this guy says (something like) it smells like pineapple, orange and banana all mashed up in the corner that someone farts on and then you put a drop of lavender on top of that.   But he said it tastes wonderful.

Supposed to be very nutritious.

Has anyone tried Durian?  If so, where did you get it?

STells, if you get a chance to try it sometime, pawpaw is quite delicious. It grows primarily in the Southeastern U.S., although parts of Ohio and the Midwest can find them, too.

Does it have an offensive smell in your opinion?  The guy in the video said it's illegal to eat on in public (somewhere).  He also said the one he had cost ~ $20.  Do most people you know like it or hate it?

Thanks Monty will keep that in mind.  Can you describe the taste/texure?

Ever tried a Cherymoia?

I'm unfamiliar with Cherymoia.

Pawpaw is similar to the banana, but is more like a custard. Apparently, many folks use pawpaw as a banana substitute in recipes. It also seems to have a touch of mango flavor, too.

There are a bunch of pawpaw trees throughout the woods at our campsite down the lake. We never knew what they were, until a couple of years ago, we were inundated with them. Pawpaws were everywhere! My cousin's husband became intrigued with them and brought one home. As we were riding back to the marina on the boat, he kept smelling the damn thing. Finally he took a bite out of it and said it was amazing.
We told him what a stupid-shit he was for eating an unidentified plant found in the woods.

He looked it up later (after ingesting it) and learned what it was.

So, what is Cherymoia?

durian is nasty.  Unless you are Asian, then it's nasty.  When ripe it smells like dead road kill and is fuzzy on the outside.

But have you tasted it?

It smells like a dead animal?

Does the bad smell become eclipsed by the good taste of the fruit?

Can you get me some of these glasses?

I haven't tried them but I want to.  I think!  If the smell is too bad I probably wouldn't be able to taste one though.

Try putting a clothespin on your nose. It's very fashionable.

Oh, this brings back bad, bad memories...

A few years ago my husband and I tried a variety of Asian ice creams: taro, coconut and durian. We didn't know this durian and thought it would just be another fruit. So we placed the packages of ice cream between us at the table and started eating.

After a few spoonfulls I started noticing a not so pleasant odour. I thought it were my hubby's socks... But the smell got worse. Our garbage can back in the kitchen perhaps? The smell was really horrible, but we never suspected it to be something else than an exploded sewer.

Half way the package we finally noticed the awful smell came from the durian ice cream. The taste is somewhere between banana and mango, but the smell... a vile concoction of sewage, maggot infested rotted chicken and cheesy toe nails.

So never again will we be having something with durian!

Have eaten a few durians while in Thailand over the years.  Different ones were better than others.  The taste varies from something like a super sweet banana to some custardy taste.  There is definitely an unpleasant smell but depending on your taste for the fruit it can even be pleasant.  Similar to folks who like offensive cheeses and salivate at the smells of those stinky things.  I think I'd describe the odor as some sweaty gym clothes left in your gym bag for a few weeks with some cheese in a hot car.  It will shock you, but if you hold your nose and have a bite, you will probably enjoy the fruit as it is quite original.

Regarding it being healthy, i'm not sure.  If you eat more than one of those pieces it can give you sweats and make you feel a bit nauseous a couple hours later.  There is something not right with that fruit and it may have some fermentation going on or something along those lines giving it that smell and the reaction when eaten.
