Something seems off with this. I can't put my finger on it, but it appears to be too sloppy of an attempt if the terrorist got caught that easily.

That's what I never understood about any act like this. Why do the guys stick around nearby?  They can plan things perfectly to get by the tightest security in the world but then just stick around.  It's like they want to be caught.

That sounds more like what my thoughts are leading me to believe.

You know that when Islamic extremists take part in these missions, they don't like to leave any traces or survivors (be it victims or themselves). It's typically a one time deal for all involved, so the mere fact that someone got caught comes off as strange to me.

I am more inclined to believe that it was some sort of domestic, rogue criminal who was trying to simply hurt others amybe even start a pattern of sorts. The marathon runners are too diverse in background, so I think it might have been an isolated crime with probably little to do with any foreign involvement.

That said, for now it's merely speculation on my part.

well if you re a foreigner it s easy to ID you quickly with infos from the airport you arrived to some days/weeks ago... the two tanned guys look a lot suspicious... the fact nobody revendicated it might  point toward a single person /domestic tho.

Sure -- but what if this group didn't want to get caught, or die, "just yet" because of impending operations? What if they wanted to carry out a string of attacks?

I'm not saying this is the case -- but Al Qaeda isn't stupid and I would not put it past them to adopt methods that leave their trail cold and confused if not for the sole purpose of making things extremely difficult for the FBI.
