From a nazi occupation in 1943. Germany says the debt was paid in 1960, Greece is broke and now wants money, and sees the austerity measures as an economic occupation. Is the breakdown of the EU inevitable? Is the nationalist machine once again rolling? What say you European getbiggers?

Greece is one big welfare state.   Naturally they are trying to sponge their way out of trouble.

Germany only paid a fraction of the debt owed.  Greece is messed up but it doesn't mean that Germany should be able to wiggle out of its bills

Soon, in 22th of May we gonna have a memory festival here in Crete, of the Battle Of Crete where during the WW2, the German airborns fought to conquer our island.

After their victory aginst the Greeks, the Australians, the New Zealands, the South Africans, the Englands and the Americans, they do several things to our people.

They burn down my village, they burn olive trees (the local economy moderator), they feed their soldiers with cows and chickens and goats...

They killed several civilians in many villages around Crete.

You think the destroy of the local economy, the demolish of those villages, of roads, of our local domestic structures should not be paid off, as the Germans paid other European countries?!

But the lives of hounderns of Greeks, they can't paid off...

So Greeks hate Germans?  It was funny watching the Greek MP talk about how Germany owed them money and that Germans thought all Greeks were lazy. Kind of funny to watch that kind of un PC banter between nations. Only a matter of time before shit goes awry on the continent again.

It's not the far past.

Also the puppet goverment of Greece back at the German occupation period, was forced to take a loan from the Germans... forced to... notice and check that.

No, please... we don't hate Germans!!!

It's just a matter of justice, when they paid off other European countries about War World 2 crimes...

so who does benefit?   The banks....?
greece is historicaly right with this.

should ease theyr debt a bit.

the eu is changing, nations like greece were temporarily allowed to get a raise all on credit, theyre now just returning to where they been before.

greek ppl dont hate germans, they dislike their government.

its clear for everyone that its not the german ppl who benefit from this euro.

nationalists in germany nor greece wont get any significant power anytime soon.

its clear for everyone that its not the german ppl who benefit from this euro.

Here's a list of benefits apparently accrued to Germany as a result of being in the Eurozone (and, in particular, being the anchor economy of the Eurozone, i.e., the economy with the most impact on other economies in the union as well as decision making power). Now, the benefits seem to go to the German government and to German businesses, which doesn't necessarily translate to benefits for the average German. Still, it's likely that Germans as a whole are better off than if they had either stayed with the DM or returned to it.
