A British soldier was reportedly killed by two men welding "machetes" in Woolwich, South East London.
Armed police responded to the incident and shot two people, according to Sky News.
A witness has told the BBC that two men in a car ran over another man, then got out of the car and attacked him. Multiple reports suggest the two men were using a "machete-style knife."
The Metro reports that the attackers brandished a gun at those who tried to intervene, and even encouraged passengers on a passing bus to take photos.
There have been a number of reports that the victim was beheaded in the incident, but police have not confirmed this at present. The BBC reports that a "substantial number of weapons" have been removed from the scene, including knives and a gun.
A local MP told the BBC that the victim is believed to have been a soldier from a local barracks. Multiple accounts say that the soldier was wearing a “Help for Heroes” t-shirt — a British military charity.
The BBC reports that the men shouted "Allahu Akbar" — God is Great — during the attack.
Video that appears to show one of the suspects after the attack has emerged. In it he tells the camera, "We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you."
