NOW..we're getting somewhere!

If this goes nationwide, I'm sure you'll see a lot less gimmicks on here, haha!

http://www.khou.com/news/texas-news/Drug-tests-for-unemployment-benefits-approved-208955991.html

Welfare sponges should be next!

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Workers who lose their jobs would have to clear a drug screening to qualify for unemployment compensation under a proposal approved by the Texas Legislature.

Under current law, employers take out insurance policies to help laid-off workers survive on weekly payments of $62 to $440. Those who are fired for cause, including failing an employer-sponsored drug test, do not qualify.

The changes approved Saturday would require laid-off workers to fill out state questionnaires. Answers considered suspicious would lead to drug tests. Workers who fail would lose their benefits.

Republican Sen. Tommy Williams said the program will help maintain a competent workforce.

Democrats have blocked a separate measure that would have required drug testing for welfare recipients. But the bill targeting unemployed workers will now go to the governor.

Very bad move.  The last thing you want is the Government empowered to drug test anyone.  Not only that, this program has been proven to be a wasteful failure that has done nothing but cost the taxpayers even MORE money as well as giving the Government more power to snoop in people`s private lives.

Why do you want to give the Government MORE power that it Should NEVER have?  ???

No, but I refuse to pay for someone who's using the money for drugs instead of looking for work. Government sponges.

A lot of those making these new laws are no doubt on drugs too. They should also be drug tested on a regular basis. Politicians, presidents, LE, all on drugs. Lots of alcoholics and pill poppers. It's a drugged society. Fire everybody.

You should know by now that abortion isn't even close to being an option for me, so I won't even bother with that video.

You have two different types of control. The control that gives away taxpayers money to anyone that's lazy and won't work, then the other who protects the taxpayers money and doesn't waste it.

This is an excellent move. Why the fuck should I have to get drug tested to keep my job, and someone else doesn't to get money without working.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/18/us/no-savings-found-in-florida-welfare-drug-tests.html?_r=0

No Savings Are Found From Welfare Drug Tests

Because the Florida law requires that applicants who pass the test be reimbursed for the cost, an average of $30, the cost to the state was $118,140. This is more than would have been paid out in benefits to the people who failed the test, Mr. Newton said.

As a result, the testing cost the government an extra $45,780, he said.

Ok, TA. Lets get serious here for a minute and use some commonsense. NY Times is one of the most liberal rags in America, like the LA Times, Chicago Tribune, etc..they have a far left agenda. Whether you admit it or not, you know this to be true. Now, that being said, this particular law has been in the planning for years. Don't you think for one minute they state of Texas hasn't researched this up and down?

The above study was an actual study done. It was not a study done by the NY times. This was actually researched. The amount of money it cost to tests everyone far outweighed the amount of people on drugs. The difference was staggering! The stereotype that all people are on welfare are on drugs is just that...a stereotype.

Doesn't matter. Do you actually think they would post a studied that would counter their agenda? Last I heard, the state of Texas had good economy compared to the rest of the states that are, for lack of a better term, less conservative.

get it right dumbass, we're not worried about saving money or a "competent workforce", it's all about discriminating against people who are in any way different than us no matter how harmless the difference may be.  Also government interference in people's personal life is a strong conservative value

So do the research yourself and try and find a study that proves it worthwhile.

But I thought conservatives were all about cutting corners to save money. This is costing more money.

Which one is it?
