That's not the way it works.  It doesn't matter who started the conflict.  The only thing that matters is whether Zimmerman had a reasonable belief that he had to use deadly force to prevent death or seriously bodily injury.

That kid was about forty pounds lighter and about four or five inches taller than Zimmerman.  If Zimmerman was "chasing" Martin, Martin would have left him in the dust and made it to his house safely.  Instead, what likely happened is he circled back and confronted Zimmerman.  Bad decision.
