Can we even estimate the egos assembled on stage that day? A lot of broken bodybuilders after Arnold won in 1980. Some never recovered.

Mike's back looked great in that back relaxed pose earlier (yep, better than Arnold in that particular photo) but Arnold is beating Mike soundly in the back double biceps.
Above the waist he is, but Arnold had probably the best upper body of all time. Mentzer was more known for legs than torso though his delts, triceps and forearms are much better than Arnold. Arnold had that great chest, biceps and his back was very defined with the best v shape ever imo.

Look at the above photo of BDB how much better Arnold's delts are compared to Mike's

Yes, she guest posed at the 1980 Mr Olympia. She first competed in Las Vegas in 1983 while they were making a movie about the women. That movie never went anywhere. Bev placed 8th! Ben Weider fixed the contest.

She married Steve Weinberger and went to live in New York and opened a gym. Steve insisted she look more feminine so she had a nose job.

I got divorced in 1999 so I haven't seen Bev for a long time now.

It's a good movie/doco too. Like the men's pumping Iron.

They even have a scene from the judges meeting where Ben Weider is telling them how to judge. So fucking rigged.

And the sheer size and volume in his arms along with the sick separation just destroy Mike.

From the front it's closer. Like Bill Pearl said, BBing hadn't stood still in the five years since Arnold retired. Guys like Chris Dickerson had amazing calves from the front - arguably more developed than Arnold's because of the tibialis anterior. However, like you said, Arnold knew how to 'pop' them from virtually any angle and especially from the back.

Bill Pearl what Hypocrite He Took 4/5 years off between contests
Had he Forgot That - So The Sport of Bodybuilding had Literally Stood Still For Him also
As He was able to comeback & Win these contests... ::)

I think what Bill Pearl was saying was that if Arnold could only train for 8 weeks and come back and win, then the sport had stood still and not made progress.

the fact we can take the Ronnie of 99 and stand him on the O stage today and he would walk it says how much the sport has stood still.

Bodybuilding was still trying to catch up with Arnold. He was more than a decade ahead of the rest. If they wanted to best him they needed better genetics.

From what I understood about Bill Pearl, he was more concerned with his gym business than he was competing. He owned several gyms and every 4-5 years, he would jump into another Mr. Universe contest and win it, both as a way to motivate himself to get into great shape and also as a way to promote his business. When he competed in his last show in 1971, he announced in IronMan Magazine the year before that this would be his last contest and he was issuing a challenge to anyone who wanted to compete against him.

I think the judges got this one right. They are not stupid you know... Arnold sure was smaller then before but he was the best. Just as stated he won over a bunch of really good bbs and you have to give it to him.

That may well be the case.
Only he didn't say that - He was having a dig at Arnold
For returning & competing.

Completely not mentioning he had done the same several times previously

How did he know Arnold had trained for 8 wks 8days or 8 months.

Look at the above photo of BDB how much better Arnold's delts are compared to Mike's

They look better there, because he is hitting the pose extremely well. Mike isn't hitting it as well. If you look at other pics in this thread Mike and then probably Tinnerino had the best delts. Arnold the best chest for sure, best biceps, then Coe, Back was one of the best. He did have weak points, his triceps were not great in this show, and his thighs were bad at this contest. They didnt judge glutes back then, and no I dont want to look, I think it is a stupid body part to judge. Sorry but no way Arnold was at his best here, as Zane said m in that short of time, his strong points made it back..

Arnold is hitting the BDB pose better than Mike, just as Mike is "hitting" the back relaxed better than Arnold(he twists his arms to get the attention to his strong points-triceps,while Arnold stays completely relaxed).
Arnold had weak points,no one denies that, just as everyone else at this contest had theirs (narrow clavicles, weak chest, sticking out belly were some of Mike's).Yes,they didn't judge glutes back then, but if they did Mike's loosing it even more as his were jelly like soft...
As you said, Arnold definitely wasn't at his best, but he didn't compete against himself. He was still the best in that line up and that's what matters.
