MuscleMag, Oxygen, Reps Magazine done - out of business
« on: June 07, 2013, 01:28:41 PM »
Oxygen, MuscleMag, Reps are in the process of declaring bankruptcy and all of employees have been sent home.

Business for these magazines are over, and as of right now, no more issues coming out, as the printer is owed thousands, and halted everything.

Sad to see the end of an era in the publishing world.

From Bill Geiger, editor-in-chief of the magazines...

"Bad news folks: Canusa/Robert Kennedy Pubs which produces MuscleMag and Oxygen has gone out of business. Closed its doors. It was great working all the great people on staff and athletes out there. Hope I land on my feet."

With an 80/20 advertising to content ratio, why couldn't they make it? Printing & distribution costs too high?

Circulation numbers go down and advertisers are less inclined to place ads and if they do they aren't going to pay a high rate.

I remember the glory days of Musclemag here in the UK - a la early 90's - my wife bought me a 6 month subscription recently as a present recently, and really - what a struggle it was to read right through each issue.

Authors really are scraping the barrel trying to come up with new material...

No surprise that this situation has resulted really...

well ron, partially responsible are forums like this one

i feel sorry for those who lost their jobs, kinda.

not for bob kenedy, he spread so many lies there the only good thing about mmi was greg zulak for a while

the rest was the usual dishonesty and lately the mag looked like 80% ads.

and having pics of pros with guts like cows, thatw ont survive in this economy.

the mag was fucking shit, but less shit than flex etc.

instead of being honest, they went for the money.

misleading a whole generation into permabulking and buying creatine and useless supplements.

pathetic.

I pretty much expected it....without Robert Kennedy, the company was never able to recover and catch their breath.  Very sad to hear.

What turns me off if the endless supplement ads, endless pictures of dudes in a kitchen w a fork and a set of supplement bottles on the counter,
recycled "routines" right out of peoples' asses, etc.

Its just boring and overdone.
