The rebels lost Al-Qusair last week and have been getting their asses beat by Hezbollah and the SAA as of late after early gains. Hezbollah/SAA have been seen amassing near Aleppo for what looks to be an attempt to retake the city. Should they retake that city then the rebels are in serious trouble.

Lo and behold Emperor Obama and his Arab masters come riding to the rescue finally deciding to arm Al-Nusrah and the other Islamist shitheads. Color me surprised. Arming Al Qaeda (who Obama keeps claiming is defeated....despite Al-Nusrah have an estimated 10,000+ fighters). Great. This won't come back to bite us in the ass.  ::)

And to top it off, one of the most influential clerics in Egypt (and Sunni Islam), Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, has declared that all Muslims who can fight should be heading to Syria to wage jihad against Hezbollah, aka "The Party of Satan".

I actually expect that entire region to devolve into chaos now. This pretty much green lights Hezbollah to go all out which is all but assured to really pull Lebanon into the conflict.

Here's hoping Hezbollah and Al Qaeda continue to kill each other off.

It's easier to count the politicans that DONT support this action.

So when we elect these folks, and they support this, we cannot really complain.

I predict that in the years to come Americans will wear a similar rap to WWII era Germans. The USA is now undoubtably behind radical Islamists.

well, yeah... we've been backing them for decades.  it's only now (in the information age) taht we can't hide it anymore.

Every day, the conspiracy theorists from back in 2004, 2005, 2006 are being proven correct on things.  That's back when the Poli board was born, and it's hilarious to see things which were mocked back then being accepted as common fact today.

LOL!!

You beat me to it.

The Nobel Peace Prize is now a joke. Obama? To give it to that community organizer based on what he might do was ridiculous. Then again I shouldn't be surprised. Arafat was awarded one.

Your vote for Obama was a vote for Al-Qaeda. Remember that next time you're stuffing your fat face at McD's.

He is so busy trying to spin everything, pointing fingers ONLY at the GOP and coming up with cockamamie conspiracy theories that he doesn't realize he is getting exactly what he voted for.

There are pictures of this on liveleak. They shot him right through the face in front of his parents. There are a bunch of videos of Al-Nusrah executions, including one where a Saudi walked down a line shooting 11 Syrians in the back of the head.

Got to love Al-Nusrah, our now allies.  ::)

What could possibly go wrong!?

We are doing this on the behalf of Saudi Arabia, what other reason is there beside destabilization and distracting the American public?

If Syria does down and Assad is deposed....you will have:

-A failed state on the border of Israel and Lebanon and Turkey and Iraq.
-That failed state will be filled with thousands upon thousands of Al-Qaeda aligned Islamic radical groups/mercenaries looking to "branch out."
-Those groups will now be armed to the teeth, trained, organized and have access to further weapon stores, including MANPAD's) from the now defeated Syrian military. Oh, throw in chemical weapons as well.
-Hezbollah will now withdraw back into Lebanon and await a new civil war.
-Israel will again be under siege.

Maybe that's the plan, to bleed Hezbollah dry and distract them from Israel and make Syria a magnet for radical to go and get killed? How is that going to work?

Obama and Congress batting .000 in the World Series of Fucking Up the Middle East. Or batting 1.000, depending on how you view it.

Obama Considers Resettling Tens of Thousands Syrian Refugees in the US
FrontPageMag.com ^  | June 10, 2013 | Daniel Greenfield

Posted on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 12:43:15 AM by Perseverando

Sure most people just see refugees, but Democrats see voters. A number of the refugees will be Christian, but somehow I think Obama isn’t all that interested in Christian refugees.

Taking in Muslim refugees from Muslim civil wars in Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere has largely been a disaster. The original World Trade Center bombing happened in part because the United States was willing to host Egyptian Islamists who would have been arrested in their own country. And who exactly will be taking in now?

If the Muslim Brotherhood Jihadists lose in Syria, their leaders will flee to Europe and America where they will suborn, undermine and plan acts of terror.

Two years into a civil war that shows no signs of ending, the Obama administration is considering resettling refugees who have fled Syria, part of an international effort that could bring thousands of Syrians to American cities and towns.

A resettlement plan under discussion in Washington and other capitals is aimed at relieving pressure on Middle Eastern countries straining to support 1.6 million refugees, as well as assisting hard-hit Syrian families.

The State Department is “ready to consider the idea,” an official from the department said, if the administration receives a formal request from the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees, which is the usual procedure.

The United States usually accepts about half the refugees that the U.N. agency proposes for resettlement. California has historically taken the largest share, but Illinois, Florida, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia are also popular destinations.

While this is supposed to ease the burden on Jordan, the Jordanians aren’t too enthusiastic about Obama creating a massive immigration magnet that leads through Jordan to America.

There were also the whispers of WMD convoys fleeing over the border to Syria during the run up to the war....

don't you know this board is a right wing echo chamber where Obama is simultaneously a ruthless dictator and also a feckless lame duck

Aren't you aware that no Republican or Democrat supports this and Obama is the sole supporter

Frankly, given the fact that 90% of the country supported background checks along with a majority of the Senate and it still failed and that was CHEERED on by the right wing on this board I can't really understand why they would object to Obama going against the will of 90% of the public on this issue (assuming of course that 90% of the public are against intervening in Syria)

back to reality - I think it's a bit odd that for some reason we care about HOW people are killed.  Hasn't the Syrian regime killed tens of thousand or more of their own citizens without using chemical weapons.   If that doesn't matter then why do we care if a few hundred or even  a few thousand are killed with chemicals.

Obama official: We probably would have said that Assad had crossed the “red line” even if we didn’t have evidence

posted at 11:21 am on June 14, 2013 by Allahpundit

An unusually damning Kinselyan gaffe, tucked away by Politico inside a story about how circumstances in Syria have supposedly forced Obama’s hand on intervention or something. You would think, in light of the endless criticism of Bush over Iraq, government officials would studiously avoid the impression that they’re using WMD claims as a pretext for intervening in a Middle Eastern country. But here we are:

“The decision was ultimately driven by the discovery Assad used [chemical weapons] but there were a number of other factors in place that were also important,” conceded an administration official with direct knowledge of the deliberations.

“Would we have made [the determination Assad had breached the red line] even if we didn’t have the evidence? Probably.”

“Probably.” And he’s right, which is what makes this a Kinsleyan gaffe. O’s under pressure to move quickly now because Assad and Hezbollah are starting to pulverize the rebels, not because they’re threatening to gas people en masse. Even yesterday’s White House statement announcing that the “red line” had been crossed acknowledged that the total number of deaths from chemical weapons attacks in Syria are a tiny percentage of the total death toll over the past two years. We’re intervening because O’s decided, apparently, that American prestige can’t tolerate the prospect of Assad winning the war after the president of the United States declared that he must go. Whether the region would be more or less stable if Assad survives and whether we’re getting in bed with a group of Sunni fanatics who’ll come back to haunt us are important, but ultimately secondary, considerations.

The reason they’re stressing the WMD “red line,” and the reason why the anonymous official quoted by Politico blithely notes that they would have stressed it even if they didn’t have hard evidence to back it up, is because it’s one of the few elements of the conflict that actually does move American public opinion. See the links in yesterday’s post for numbers on that. If you tell the electorate we need to dive into this clusterfark as a matter of U.S. prestige or because the Saudi-backed Sunni lunatics are ever so slightly preferable to the Iran-backed Shiite lunatics, you won’t see the numbers move much. Tell them that the WMD genie is out of the bottle, though, and they pause. That’s what the “red line” is ultimately about. Sarin is special. We have to act.

Here’s a question that cuts to the heart of the “logic” of O’s decision:

It won’t. Arguably, in fact, it’ll end up giving Assad reasons to use chemical weapons that he didn’t have before. Either he’ll cite the rebels’ new armaments as a pretext to start gassing people, to defy the United States, or the rebels will turn the tide and leave Assad in straits so desperate that he decides he has nothing left to lose by using sarin on a wide scale. Or maybe the rebels will overrun his stockpiles and they’ll start using sarin on the Shiites instead, which would leave the White House with one of the all-time great foreign-policy backfires. The point to take away here is that none of his has much to do with the “responsibility to protect” doctrine that new UN ambassador Samantha Power is so fond of (way, way too late for that, and more arms for jihadis will only up the death toll) or with somehow strategically tying Assad’s hands so that he can’t use WMD again going forward. It’s really just retaliation. We told him not to use gas, he embarrassed us by doing it anyway, and now he’s embarrassing us again by winning a war after we told him he had to go. So now we’re going to arm the terrorists on the other side and let them bleed him as much as possible, hopefully to the point that he decides he’s had enough and will agree to some ultimately unsustainable partition of the country into Sunni and Alawaite mini-states. Full speed ahead.

So in other words, you don't support arming the rebels, but people who agree that arming the rebels is a bad idea shouldn't use polling data which shows most Americans also don't support the rebel's-- and you also think that killing people with baseball bats or nunchucks is just as serious as killing people with chemical/biological weapons?

If liberalism isn't a mental disorder, this kind of abject stupidity must be part of the "new normal" since Obama took office.
