Ahh, the latest in "buy now, pay later"...payment plans...you WANT that flat screen TV, but you don't have the funds? Easy, get it and pay for it in monthly installments. Never mind the fact that if you can't afford it, you probably can't afford paying your rent, water or electric bills...

Fingerhut has been around since I was a little kid, actually before that. And I am 54. I remember my mom and dad buying shit from them. My dad always referred to them as Fingerbutt.

I never knew about them until a few months ago...
Someone who couldn't afford something that they didn't need, but wanted went thru them. Yet, they complain about putting gas in their car, and other things. Priorities in America: Cable, electronics, drugs.

my grandmother, mother's mom, was the fingerhut queen when i was like 5 or 6.  I'd say they are more legit than Amway.  Someone's wife in my old hood got scammed by Amway for 10k or some number like that.

ha...I see more people using it now..people who said that they don't have money for XYZ, all of a sudden have a ton of electronics. I told one person to just go to the pawn shop.

Totally different.

Fingerhut doesn't market itself as a "business opportunity" ; it is just a catalogue.  You don't have to "recruit" a "downline"  ::)

True, the interest rates are high, but Fingerhut reports monthly to credit bureaus, so if a person is smart and just buys an inexpensive item and pays the small monthly payment, he can rebuild credit if he has hit rock bottom.

Obviously, people with decent money and good credit are really Fingerhut's target customer base so they rarely get catalogues from the company.

Nothing new about fingerhut. I remember my parents ordering from them when I was a kid. Was fun to look through the magazine, kinda like skymall.

Reminds me of that 12 CDs for a penny deal back in the day that you could order at 12 years old but they couldn't do shit to you on the agreement to buy more regularly priced albums afterwards.  ;D

German for thimble. Thats one of those things I learned the german name long before the english.  Despite being 3rd and 4th generation american, my maternal grandparents still spoke german as children, and would mix it a bit as adults.  Only once I got into grade school did I realize that some of the words I knew were not english.
