Very sad. RIP. Gigantic guy in person and very friendly to chat to.
The mortality rate just seems too high in bodybuilding. I'd be interested in a list going all the way back to guys like Jeep Swenson, Curtis Leffler, Scott Stein, Sonny Schmidt, etc, etc ....who have left us?
If it wasn't health issues it was mental issues like Paul DeMayo, Bertil Fox and Ray McNeil?
Maybe Stunt can help with some of the historical facts?
Even Arnold had an open-heart surgery at one time. Ever read about the insane stacking that Michalik did? He trained insane and juiced even more so. How about Andreas Munzer and Momo? Wasn't there a bodybuilder just recently who dropped dead right by his swimming pool? Flex Wheeler had to retire early. Thank God he made the right choice. Don Long was given a second chance yet he seems to be back "on" again.... Don Youngblood wasn't so lucky.
Most of today's Pro bb's know they have to walk away from that lifestyle (if they make it that far) but what is Gary Strydom's excuse? You don't very often see Mr O competitors "living the dream" in their 50's. Why is that? Hmmmmmmmmmm....
Where is Abdullah Haykutluh? Healthy? Isn't that guy competing in the 212 division having some issues now, already? Is it Ronny Rockel?
What about the women who have died?
Do we think Sergio Oliva's battle had nothing to do with steroids?
The Mentzer brothers? WTF?
Ron Teufel. Scott Klein (29). Charles Durr. Eric Otero. Eduardo Kawak. Robert Sager. Greg Deferro "Rocky" ~ Dan Puckett (22) Shellie Beatty (39) Joe Meeko (48) Derrick Whitsett. Tony Pearson?
Mike Francois came pretty close...
I think the list goes on and on.
Kris Dim isn't doing too well these days after his open-heart surgery. Why did he try to compete again? Now he is in a wheelchair!
I don't really care what kind of criticism I get here, but I would NOT be surprised if by this time next year the Mr. O will take on a whole new appearance. If not next year, by the following.
Mark my words. This "size game" at any cost will not prevail. It's already being discussed by some very influential people.
If we were cold-hearted enough to start a "Deadpool" I'm sure some of us would be making a shitload of money and who is going to be next ~
Whatever. Rock out with your cocks out. Let the chips fall where they may.
This "Sport" has absolutely NOTHING to do with health and longevity.
Did it ever?
