if you just need to access the files (not run the softwares installed in your work machine) then the answer is Dropbox.

I rely on RealVNC, but the best one for you depends on your personal requirements (operating system, protocols, security, etc..) and budget.

GoToMyPC is the software I use. It works like a charm..

thank you for that, can you access the software on realVNC?

As long as the server part is running on your remote PC, you can take over it's desktop via the VNC client. Many helpdesks work with these tools.

Teamviewer is best in my opinion. I tried all the rest and they can't match it for reliability/performance.

It is a tad expensive though....

I like teamviewer. Its free and gets the job done but I also use splashtop and logmein from time to time.
