Whats the best remote access software to access my work PC

Some people just hate doing that.

We have huge amounts of storage available from places like Box.net... I've on many occasions tried to convince users to just install the box.net app on whatever machines or tablets they have.

Often I'm met with resistance. They want a portable USB drive or some other such nonsense.

It's just not worth the fight to try to convince them... a couple of hundred bucks isn't so much that it's worth an argument.

The year has little to do with it.

There's a bunch of reasons you'd rather log onto a remote PC rather than share data.

I use dropbox to synch my files, which is fine for documents. I also have certain applications I only use on 1 PC, even when I travel. Those apps run 24x7 as does my home machine which is in a dedicated environment with UPS and redundant networok. It collects real-time market data 24x5 which is impossible with the machine you carry with you.

Some things can't be "synched to the cloud"....

Splashtop is even better for home use or if your home and work computers both have awesome connections, You can even full screen game in practical realtime (lag is pretty much non existent) from your ipad, playing call of duty black ops 2 or nba 2k13 while sitting in the garden on the tablet is awesome.

Logmein works well, but I use GotomyPc more in the last few years, which works great for remote access.

well, you might need to contact your network administrator as well to allow this through firewall....I block anything from outside here, unless I know and can verify who's accessing network resources......RDP is the best choice once it's allowed

Teamviewer is best in my opinion. I tried all the rest and they can't match it for reliability/performance.

Yes, teamviewer is the best outthere for me so far....that sucker has help me in a lot of troubleshooting scenarios for the past 8 months.....My company just bought the full version and it works better than several other remote client software we have here.

It is good and goes through the firewalls like nothing. It is ridiculously easy to use and when you have it in two machines, they find each other no matter where and how you try to connect. I have it in my laptop and by that I have access to files on my PC no matter where I am, I have used it even by HSDPA and UMTS with my 3G phone, with no problems. For a free of charge- software it is plenty.

Good point, I occasionally have to do remote support. Sending someone to the teamviewer site to set it up their end so you can get in is a breeze. I've yet to have a customer that could not manage to set it up and I have a lot of non-IT-savvy customers.
