strength of some wrestlers.
« on: August 15, 2013, 12:11:35 PM »
was watching the new ecw unreleased 2 dvd and tommy dreamer said that he worked out with rick steiner when the steiners did their brief ecw run and rick used 315 for 10 reps in the press behind the neck. dreamer was impressed . dreamer said scottie was a prick even then and blew off the workout invite at dreamer's gym. saw  big e langston using 405 for reps in the close grip barbell bench  press in a video from muscle beach.

I have posted before how Larry Zbysko absolutely stunned me with how strong (and ugly) he was in real life.

Tony Atlas

I still remember his "feats of strength" contests against Ken Patera in Mid-Atlantic.

It depends on how you want to classify it "Strong men who also wrestled" or "Wrestlers who were strong"

Bill Kazmaier and Ted Arcidi wrestled for a bit so they would be WAY up there.

I heard that Haku once broke a pair of handcuffs without tools.

From what I hear, despite the ridicule the angle may have inspired, those Persian clubs that the Iron Sheik used to lift were no joke.

Big E apparently benched 600 raw in Cena's gym, then you obviously have the likes of Kane who despite his size was a freak on the bench. I think we had a thread a good while back detailing wrestlers that were just plain strong, another powerhouse was Volkoff. I remember him pressing Hogan like he was nothing

Haku also once reached into a guy's mouth and broke off his teeth.

After setting up many a rings, I'm calling bullshit. Gotta be a work - even if it was some kind of half-assed home made ring.

That wouldn't surprise me a bit and I'm sure he is another one of those guys you wouldn't want to mess with in a dark alley back in the day.

A few guys have come out and said he was the toughest wrestler there was. Period.

Supposedly bit some guys nose off in an airport and of course the classic story about 6 or so cops having trouble putting him down even after they maced him.

I wouldn't mess with him now...much less back in his prime.  Terrific amateur background.

not as in powerlifting numbers, but some of the things he did in the ring in his prime were ridiculous.

I feel bad for Luger. Nothing Vince did could get him over.

WWF at that time was flat out awful from top to bottom.  Angles were just pitiful.  And Luger coming in behind UW didnt help.

Yes. And, not only did the product suck, but Vince had it in his head that he could "manufacture" champions. He tried it with Sid, Luger, and Nash...nothing worked. An era had ended, and fans demanded more than just big guys.
