I think Jay had no intention of competing this year but because of S.Ray and a lot of people on the forums calling him out saying he was going to fake an injury, he felt he has to do it now. Which is probably why he could compete in the 212 division if he really wanted to. And he'd lose that also...
Last year, after the surgery in Feb, Jay continued insisting he was going to compete - even when he looked completely untrained 10 weeks out. Finally it was a quiet announcement. Shawn really did put Jay on the spot by predicting he would punk out of the show. Jay was really in a tough spot, but he did make the best of it and go all out with the comeback, even though at 10 weeks out, he lacked the kind of muscle size the other dudes had at that point.
He's done a fine job getting ripped, as many of us predicted. but one cannot fake the muscle size that comes from lifting heavy all year long before that. Kai and Phil were looking thick all year, while Jay looked untrained with puffy arms. At the O, we will really see the results of this. It'll be a treat for the fans - IF Jay looks the same as before, it'll be pretty incredible. If he is shredded (anyone can get shredded with today's diet, chemistry, and plenty of determination), but lacks any muscle, I guess we'll see.
Shawn Ray is probably the biggest influence on the 2013 Olympia that nobody is talking about.
