Democrats Have A Shot At Taking Back The House As Republican Popularity Continues To Drop: Poll

A new survey of 25 GOP-held districts shows dwindling favorability for Republican members of the House in the wake of the recent government shutdown.

The survey, conducted by liberal-leaning Public Policy Polling and funded by MoveOn.org, is the third in a series of polls that indicate Democrats have a shot at taking back the House of Representatives in the 2014 election cycle.

The results of the latest survey show that incumbent Republicans in 15 of the 25 districts polled trail generic Democratic candidates. When combined with the results of the previous surveys, the polls show that generic Democratic candidates lead in 37 of 61 GOP-held districts.

When voters were informed their Republican candidate supported the government shutdown, 11 more districts flipped and one race became a tie.

Democrats in the House only need to see a net increase of 17 seats in order to take back the majority. This poll indicates that Democrats could see an increase of as many as 49 seats.

Public Policy Polling indicated several caveats to the results. The surveys were conducted during a high-profile budget crisis debate, a year before the elections will take place. And incumbent Republican candidates were compared to "generic Democrats," who may not represent the actual candidates each district will see.

"Democrats must recruit strong candidates and run effective campaigns in individual districts if they are to capitalize on the vulnerability revealed by these surveys," Public Policy Polling's Jim Williams said of the caveat, "and they must maintain a significant national advantage over Republicans."

Recent polls conducted by the Pew Research Center and NBC/Wall Street Journal are consistent with the survey's claim that the Republican party took a hit from the fiscal crisis. Pew found that more Americans blamed Republicans for the shutdown, and NBC/Wall Street Journal found that the Republican party was "badly damaged" by it.

this is BAD.

NEITHER party should have house, senate, and the white house.  THAT is when shit gets ugly FAST, on either side.  Seriously.

Two months ago, nate dogg was talking about dems losing the Senate.  NOW, thanks to the shutdown (?), suddenly dems might actually keep senate and win house?

See, THAT is when amnesty, anti-gun, and 2-3 other bullshit bills get passed in a year, then they all shift central for 2016 elections.

That's bad.  Repubs, please, get your shit together and keep the house.  Thanks in advance.

Make no mistake the only reason i "support" the democrats is because the republicans and its policies are a total failure.

I know you want to believe its because Obama is black and people want free shit or whatever but the plain truth is the republicans is just a disaster.

With the train wreck that is the GOP the DEM should have control long ago. But they will fuck it up they always do.

I'm starting to lose hope that there is any way to stop this. There are simply too many low info voters/urban dregs out there and they increase in number constantly, conservatives cannot match their sheer numbers anymore. The only tool for reversing this is the media but they overwhelmingly support liberals and as long as this is the case, it will be pretty much impossible to reach enough minds to change them.
The only consolation is the thought that well, if the socialists get full control of the gov, and start REALLY forcing their agenda full speed, it might bring on a revolution/uprising sooner  ;D

This is what is going to happen.

The negative results of the retarded liberal agenda will be too much to ignore and the nation will demand a return to conservatism.

As Obama's favorite pastor once said. "America's chickens are coming home to roost."

i'm not worried about a collapse, riots, drama like that... nope.  too much good TV on, too many controls in place so that anything small would be smashed quick and they'd be labeled as terr'ists and we'd all nod along with the media coverage.  So to me, that's a non-issue.  We'll continue the slow, long slide into 2nd world status, but no chickens coming home to roost.  It's just too profitable right now, we're all working, being productive.  Riots mean people aren't working, producing, etc.

Now, that being said, if repubs would just start painting themselves as the SENSIBLE party - not the "let's crash this fcking govt!" party, they would dominate the dems, very content in being the welfare handout party.  But this splintered GOP just ain't working - proof is in the pudding.  You're either small govt tea party, or youre big govt RINO.  MAKE UP YOUR FUCCCKING MIND!

Cause right now, 40% of the nation is dems, 30% tea party, 30% RINO... and the dems own the white house, and leading polls for 2016 to keep it with hilary.  Now we hear congress may swing their way?  Come on, man!

and as I've said about ten times now the Repubs should not be fighting the ACA but instead taking the high road and calling it the law of the land and helping to implement it
they can still criticize it but they can also say we must do our duty  and help implement the law that our county

then..... when it becomes a full blown disaster the majority of the citizens will be begging for Repubs to get rid of it and will overwhelmingly vote them into office

I can't understand why idiot repubs can't understand and adopt this simple and fool proof strategy

I think it has more to do with you losers threatening legislation and their underlying agenda of trying to get rid of gun ownership that is driving people to get them while they can...not to mention Homeland security suddenly deciding to order 2 BILLION rounds all at once ::)

My next door neighbor is a retired navy seal and he was doing the same thing and telling me how Obama was going to go after guns

I had to remind him (at that time) that Obama hadn't said a damn thing about guns

Skell

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Skell, as a stereotypical or archetypal designation, refers to a person who is homeless, vagrant or derelict. It is often used to connote such a person who is habitually engaged in small-time criminal activity, especially by one working as a con artist or panhandler.

History[edit]

In its modern form, the use of skell as a slang term in the United States appears to date only from the 1970s, most especially from New York City. The word has sometimes been used by the police officer characters on the TV shows NYPD Blue, Third Watch, and Law and Order: SVU.

Origin[edit]

Possible origins for the word include:
The 17th century British slang word skelder, a noun and verb which referred to a professional beggar, especially one who falsely pretended to be a wounded former soldier to gain sympathy; more generally, it could be used for a swindler or cheat. An early recorded use is by Ben Jonson, from his play Poetaster, written in 1601: 'An honest decayed commander, cannot skelder, cheat, nor be seene in a bawdie house.' In an older military connection, the term skelder seems to have been used in early Medieval England to mean 'shield-maker' (Old Norse 'skjoldur'?), the supposed derivation of the streetname Skeldergate in the city of York.
The Dutch schelm, a word meaning a villain or rogue.
The Latin scelus, meaning a wicked deed or wickedness.
An abbreviation of skeleton.

Use in film and television[edit]

The term is used several times in the film Miller's Crossing, especially in regard to the character Bernie Bernbaum.

Crow T. Robot refers to Michael J. Nelson as a skell in a sketch performed in episode 905 of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Ed Burns (Mickey) refers to Mike McGlone (Francis) as a skell in the movie She's the One.

Joe Pesci (Nicky Santoro) uses the term skell in his rant to Robert De Niro (Sam Rothstein) in the movie Casino.

Police Officer Smitty refers to Bender as a skell when he and his partner, URL, are undercover in Little Bitaly in the second-season episode of Futurama entitled Bender Gets Made.

Within the Law & Order television series, the term has been casually used by leading characters such as Det. Lennie Briscoe, Det. Elliot Stabler and Det. Mike Logan.

In the Third Watch television series, the term has been frequently used in casual conversation between the leading NYPD characters such as John 'Sully' Sullivan, Maurice 'Bosco' Boscorelli and others.
