Pretty sure if you are talking the giants that shaped everything for that last 40 yrs then it's Beatles, Stones, Sabbath and Floyd.

Honorable mention - The Ramones for saving rock when it got too bloated with everyone trying to outdo the above bands commercially and musicially...

Pearl Jam

Saw them two Saturdays ago at the Barclay's in Brooklyn.
honestly they were FUCKING AWESOME!...Eddy still has it and can still sing the shit out the songs.
one of the best shows I ever saw....the whole crowd walked out and was like "Holy shit that was an incredible show :o}
played close to three hours with no opening band...from acoustic to heavy they played it all.
over 30 songs including,
Nothing man
Hail hail
Even flow
Rats
Immortality
State of love and trust
Once
Given to fly
Better man
Do the evolution
Go
Porch
Black
Alive
Yellow leadbetter
Rocking in the free world
Star spangled banner
 8) 8) 8)

Pearl Jam used to make great music. They always put on a phenomenal live show. But over the past 10 years or more thir music lost all of its flow. Vedder got less creative and more preachy.

For sure...when younger I really liked Zep but now I really appreciate Purple....with age comes the ability to slow down and even listen to Procol Harum, haha.

Def Leppard's new live box set shits all over anything by other bands mentioned in this thread. And they've lasted three times as long as the Beatles and Led Zeppelin.

Is Leppard the only band you listen to?

Sorry to rub your nose in it arse face but you asked for it:

Def Leppard are one of only five rock bands with two original studio albums selling over 10 million copies each in the US. The others are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Van Halen.

Dude, they had a good run in the 80s with Pyromania and Mtv. How in the world did you attach yourself to them this late in the game? They're a nostalgia act at this point.

Then how come they are still releasing new material? They've released 12 studio albums with a new one scheduled for next year. Explain that.

Doesn't really change anything, a lot of 80s bands have released new stuff. Its just not that relevant anymore. They had their time and its  over, has been for a long time. They're British Bon Jovi is all, face it, buddy.

“YEAH! is a good album, but unfortunately it didn’t get terribly good reviews. In fact one review was just one word “NO!”"

"Sparkle Lounge is if anything as classic a Leppard album as you could possibly get."

“Inevitably in the rock world things come around again, you know, and Leppard’s time is coming around again.”

Geoff Barton, founder of Kerrang! magazine.

Are you an older guy who never let go, or a younger who discovered them late?

gotta agree with you here, theyre becoming a nostalgia/sarcastic act... theyre music is pretty "blah" anyway,, just more terrible 80s pop rock...
