Ricky williams, who quit the NFL some 10 years ago to backpack thru europe and get high - He was the first person to suggest maybe Martin just wanted to quit, and this was his creative way of doing so.  Ricky said something like "At least I didn't have to smear a teammate to do it".

My guess - Martin is 24 years old.  In his head, he worked out this complex plan to get out of the NFL before he is cut, to get a settlement pile of $, to play the victim, and to knock down Incognito, whom he sucked up to but secretly hated for being the dominant alpha and more widely accepted than he was.

On paper, it makes sense... Attack the dude with a bully reputation, save that voicemail using the N-word, check into a mental health facility to show just how "hurt" he is, retreat to parent's house, let it all blow over, enjoy a pile of $ from the NFL, get pity of people, and Incognito gets kicked outta league.  For a total beta hater, hey, this is a decent enough plan for an average intelligence, soft 24 year old, right?

Now it's coming unraveled, of course.  Once ESPN smelled it was fishy, they opened up the interviews and now we're learning the truth.  Yes, Incognito had no business using the word, but when black teammates were making him 'honorary', he thought it was okay.  Yes, Incognito is an obnoxious d-bag... but now we're seeing he got Martin out of a few jams and saved his asss a few times in fights, stood up for him, etc.  

There's way more to this story than we know now... the more that comes out, the more it appears to be just like that Manti Teo situation... Just a shady young kid with a plan to dupe everyone... and the minute people smell shady (in this case, when martin didn't return to play football, instead getting a lawyer and starting a PR campaign prepping for a lawsuit), everyone realized he was making it up.  

Incognito is certainly getting hit with all the bad karma he's collected over the years - Millions of people who had never heard of him now hate him.

Martin... IF he was just trying to engineer a situation to quit football with $10 mil settlement and punk the dude he was jealous of all along... it won't work.

I said back in the thread Ricky was on the radio yesterday! He said to that if Martin planned this out cause he wanted to quit it was pretty brilliant on his behalf! Yes if he can walk away with a nice settlement and go on to do something else!

in the end if he chose to expose icognito, that s because at some point he genuinely felt bullied by him joking or not with him afterwards so... it's all fair. Also everyone in the team sticking with inc instead of martin proves they were indeed harassing him one way or another . Again it only reinforces the veracity of his claim. If you want to destroy someone whatever the way , intensity of the attack you use, you still want to destroy him in the end, so no wonder he fought back, that's life, destroying or getting destroyed. This came just 24 hours after many players expressed overwhelming support for guard Richie Incognito, who was suspended indefinitely Sunday for conduct detrimental to the team.

Martin has said he suffered harassment and was bullied by Incognito, and handed over evidence to the Dolphins, the NFL and NFLPA. ESPN obtained the transcript of a voice mail allegedly left by Incognito that included racial slurs and threats of violence.

When asked if Martin could return to Miami's locker room, the reception was lukewarm.

"I'm not sure how everybody will feel about him," left tackle Bryant McKinnie said. "That was his situation and he felt the need to do it, I guess, so be it. Some things you like to keep in house."

McKinnie, like several Dolphins veterans, blamed Martin, not Incognito, for causing a media firestorm.

"If you honestly ask me, it was a decision that Jonathan Martin made on his own to leave," McKinnie said. "There was a repercussion behind that involved Richie. That's between them now."

Many players didn't like the way Martin aired the team's dirty laundry in public.

"You kind of wish people went about it a different way," Dolphins defensive lineman Jared Odrick said. "There's other ways that this could have been handled. It's tough to speak on."

On Wednesday, Dolphins veterans provided overwhelming support for Incognito. Some said they thought Incognito and Martin were friends and were surprised by Martin's allegations.

Dolphins players were asked Thursday why Martin wasn't getting as much support in the locker room as Incognito.

I think if Martin had a fight with Ingconito, that it wouldn't go any further. Once you show that you cannot be pushed around---regardless of who wins, what happens is that a mentality is that this person won't stand for it...

Which actually is a win-win, it shows that one will stand up for themselves and that they then become a "leader"...
Furthermore, why would there be a need for them to target Martin? You know in the wild, predators target the sick, the young, the weak, and the old...culling the herd and keeping it healthy.
