Because that's totally in the same realm. ::)

They are not telling you you cant it eat it they are telling companies that they cant put it in their products.

(There is certain standards to be meet if you want to sell food to humans).

Can you see the difference?

Yes, comparing rat poison to a fat makes total sense. Label it as a trans fat food and let the citizens decide.

And its effectively the same damn thing. Theyre trying to legislate health via food choices.

Myself, I'm stunned to think we may be witnessing a rare glimpse of the FDA working on their supposed mission.

Unlike other bad things (sugar, etc.), that a consumer could say has benefits (tastes good, etc.), I'm unaware of any such thing with trans-fat. Is anyone else?

It seems manufacturers have figured out ways around using trans-fat, which is simply a stabilizer ingredient for added shelf-life, etc., and this story isn't much more than grandstanding.

if its shown tbat trans fata are literally some sort or poison and doesnt just make a person fat, then I would be all for banning it. But im totally against attempting to legislate health by removing "bad food choices". What a personputas in their body is their business.

That's EXACTLY what transfats are... THEY KILL!!!

Transfats originally started out as an agricultural product... to fatten up poultry and increase profits.
Unfortunately... all the poultry died. So much for increased Agroprofits, ...so they used it in human foodstuffs instead.

Yes, but it's easier if the government takes care of your health, that way you aren't stuck having to deal with it.  There are too many things to have to decide on our own and know you're doing it right.

Transfats are harmful if combined with other factors such as an overall poor diet, unhealthy habits like smoking and drinking and genetics.  As long as people know the risks, they should have the right to put whatever they want in their own bodies.

From the U.S. National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health:

Quote
Trans fatty acids are manufactured fats created during a process called hydrogenation, which is aimed at stabilizing polyunsaturated oils to prevent them from becoming rancid and to keep them solid at room temperature.

Let's not forget that TF has become a liability to sales in the past few years, so it makes a perfect opportunity for the FDA to pretend they're legit without offending their corporate partners.

Since when did "genetics" fall into the category of an unhealthy habit? ???

No one is saying they don't have the right to put whatever they want into their bodies. If someone wants to fill his belly with transfats, ...s/he is welcome to do so. What people are saying is that they don't want food manufacturers having the right to put a known killer (transfats) into their food.

Is it a known killer?  Correlation does not mean causation.  Genetic is one of the other factors.
