Rules of a gunfight
« on: November 16, 2013, 03:56:27 PM »
Back when I taught self-defense pistol a lot, I used to give this to all the students. I always liked 18 and 21.

Quote
1. Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns.
2. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap – life is expensive.
3. Only hits count. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss.
4. If your shooting stance is good, you’re probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly.
5. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral and diagonal movement are preferred.)
6. If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight, bring a long gun and a friend with a long gun.
7. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.
8. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating, reloading, and running.
9. Accuracy is relative: most combat shooting standards will be more dependent on “pucker factor” than the inherent accuracy of the gun. Use a gun that works EVERY TIME. “All skill is in vain when an Angel blows the powder from the flintlock of your musket.”
10. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.
11. Always cheat, always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
12. Have a plan.
13. Have a back-up plan, because the first one won’t work.
14. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.
15. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.
16. Don’t drop your guard.
17. Always tactical load and threat scan 360 degrees.
18. Watch their hands. Hands kill. (In God we trust. Everyone else, keep your hands where I can see them.)
19. Decide to be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH.
20. The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.
21. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
22. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.
23. Your number one option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
24. Do not attend a gun fight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with anything smaller than “4″.
25. You can’t miss fast enough to win.

There is only 1 rule....

there are no rules. Do whatever it takes to kill your opponent. Give no quarter, no chances. Kill without hesitation or remorse, or you will die.

Funny how we've evolved back to Dodge City, circa 1865.

I think they're stating to use a .40 caliber or larger round... which I tend to agree with. I know that certain Marine units went to the .45 1911 because the 9mm had no knock down power.

Yeah as mentioned, it's an admonishment to carry a large caliber or bring a large gun if you know a fight might happen. It's similar to the old "Use enough gun" or "the best handgun for a gunfight is a rifle" type sayings.

General Mattis.
Chaos is/was a bad guy.

I heard the that Mattis was fired by Obama because he refused to shut up and tell Obama what he wanted to hear. And rather than listen to the General (whos expertise is unmatched) he just fucking canned.

Evidently the president would rather have a yes man than a real advisor that's not afraid of telling him the truth, and that really cared about the country and the people he swore to protect.

color me suprised.

If you think there is going to be a gun battle... STAY HOME.

Trust your spider senses.  Take an extra lap around the block.  Show up late.  our spidey senses are remarkably good.

Too many people probably say "I just KNEW something was wrong, I just felt it..."

If you know drama is ahead, don't show up lol...

Learn to jog. Work up to sprints. Practice running away. It's fine if you want to exact revenge in the dead of night, but don't ever plan on winning some "gun battle" (oh brother). You run away, and if they crossed a line you get revenge through the courts or through other means.

A lot of people end up getting into gun battles because they let their ego take over.

There's nothing at all wrong with running from some punk, that you could easily whoop, even if he starts it.

Yes, you can whip out your weapon and end it... but legally, you might go to jail.  Or he might have the jump on you.  Or you might never see his buddy with a gun behind you.

Seriously, if shit is not right in any way, you don't enter, or you get the heck out of there.  I bet half the people in prison "wouldn't be" if they would have just stayed home that night, or just backed down from a fight over a girl.

Many years ago I was a Correction Officer at a max prison for two years before I moved on. I never forgot what a murderer told me. Once you let that bullet fly there is no calling it back after the dust settles.

If you can leave the situation do it. To many people carrying a gun with all these civilian carry permits feel like an 800lb. gorilla and actually escalate problems being a "tough" guy.  Stand your ground laws should only be for Police Officers in their legal pursuit of their goals. A civilian with a gun should have to retreat at first resort if possible. Stand your ground and kill someone when you could have walked away is insanity.

Even in "stand your ground" states like FL where there are almost a million concealed carry permits, there are statistically zero cases where it is invoked. In fact, as a former CCW holder and instructor in FL, I can categorically state that the proficiency and sobriety of the average civilian permit holder vastly exceeds the proficiency and sobriety of the average police officer.

The most important aspect, IMHO, of SYG laws is the immunity from civil litigation. Too many times a BG is killed in a hot home invasion that is legit, only to have his family sue for "unlawful death" or some other complete bullshit.

It has been proven that arm your law abiding citizens and there will be a significant drop in gun crimes ...... what criminal is gonna rob a place knowing that the odds of more guns inside will be turned on him
