the IFBB  would complain to the guys that their guts were getting out of control, but the winners had the biggest guts.

Milos said he felt he had the perfect physique when he was 220ish (he probably did look near perfect), but he didn't place well until he was in the 240's.

the federation complains about the lack of symmetry and balance associated with excess growth, but then they reward it in competition.

Agreed.  It's because once they've been there (perfection at a lighter bodyweight), showing up bigger but still relatively hard is inevitably viewed as progress as it's the only thing to do once you've been there.  Like gh15 said, turning pro should be perfection then after that competing as a pro just turns into a size game because it's really all you're left to try to improve with.  The only way to try to maintain your present size is by not training/juicing in the offseason and just doing a Levrone-style prep.  But even then I don't think anyone can recreate their densest, most crisp package that they had turning pro or in their rookie year as a pro, even by doing that.

I would say almost 90% of all bodybuilders go beyond their ideal bodyweights , most look much better a tad smaller and they look a lot sharper.

I agree 100%. Damn near everyone looked better smaller. Take Ronnie for example, he went from having great symmetry to some of the worst ever seen inside of 6-7 years.

Can't have both. Aesthetics are non-existant in this day and age.

anyways, coach, there are PLENTY of examples of guys who are mass monsters but stay aesthetic

cormier, flex, ronnie up untill 2003, but once again in 2005 he was aesthetic, jay up untill 2001, and once agaijn in 2006; levrone was always aesthetic, nasser always kept his tight waist...  ruhl in the grand prix series after the 2006 mr o was phenomenal... the list goes on and on..

Cormier or Flex were not really considered mass monsters.

DENNIS james was diced at that weight ,legs were actually strong point defintion and hardness wise.seems bigger his upperbody got less he cared for his legs.levrone shaved head look was biggest 96/98 was big as a house all over.shawn ray never played that game stayed consistent got rewarded but most people here think he was boring for not drastically changing with the times.

when i say ive never been big see i am being honest and i am speaking in bodybuilding related size measurements.

if i were to think of myself compared the average NYC joe, like jae does here, well then i would talk a big talk and think i look awesome...cuz compared to the average joe sure i do; but having a false sense of self confidence is not for me; maybe that works for guys like you jae.. but i prefer to live in reality

The post on George Farah made me think of this...

What bodybuilders do you think looked better at a lighter weight?

I'll go first... Dennis James. When Dennis turned pro he had much better lines. He's packed on a ton of mass, but I think its at the expense of those lines. The judges keep sending out the message that bigger is better.

I agree.  Watching some of the better amateur shows of the past and present its apparent how much better some bodybuilders look smaller.
