I found the trick with those is not to grip the handle bars, just light rest your palms on it. (at least in the lighter sets, gets kinda hard to do in the heavier sets)
If you can't figure out how to do laterals with 10lb dumbells, maybe lifting isn't for you.

get your traps strong as fuck then delt raises won't be enough to stress them. I used to have the same problem. my traps were just too weak.
