On "Scull Crushers" should I use an over hand or under hand grip?

Scull crushers? Must be some new, nautical variation of an old favourite.

I prefer overhand grip. I like to have my head hanging off the bench to get more ROM.

Definitely overhand grip!  I've never even heard of using an underhand grip on Skull Crushers!  Seems to me that would place massive undue stress on your elbows.

Make sure your triceps are very warmed up before doing heavy skull crushers though...  You can easily ruin your elbow joints!

I've lately preferred two-hand overhead dumbbell extensions instead of skullcrushers.  Doesn't hurt the elbows as much for me and gives more of a stretch.  But if you do skullcrushers use an overhand grip and an EZ bar, and keep your upper arms at an angle.  Save yourself a lot of wrist and elbow pain that way.

2-hand lying extensions using a dumbbell are also great, better than using a barbell, IMO.

I superset em both ways on a 30 deg. incline.  I start with the camber bar heavy, up to about 160ish for maybe 6 and on my last 3 sets I drop the heavy bar and grab a straight short bar with a reverse grip (palms facing me like curl grip) and do some more strict extensions really low behind the head.

As someone already mentioned, extensions with palms facing in are absurd. It limits the amount of weight to what the hands can support, which is not the purpose of the exercise.

Well, you know pumpster I respect your opinion but it isn't "absurd".  I've seen many pros doing light reverse grip palm in extensions in dozens of shots and myself I utilize it as the second phase of a drop set.

Light finishing movements can be done with any grip. For size though, underhand grip won't work.

If you keep your elbows back a little you can keep your tri's under constant tension even if you go to lock out for full rom. I like to superset them with close grip bench pressing with the same weight.

For skull crushers i've always started them w/a false grip (thumb over the bar) while using the curl bar.Have never felt comfy doing these w/the straight olympic bar. After I get the weight up over 100 lbs. or more I go to using a regular grip w/them for safetys sake.I have never tried them reverse grip but i'll stick to reverse grip pressdowns for that.Less danger involved I would think unless keeping the weight very low for a finishing/pumping movement.

Might also try skull crushers on a incline bench with a EZ bar. Different muscle angle and strength curve. As far as doing regular flat bench SC's, I've seen both curl grip and overhand grips used but with safety in mind when using heavier weights, the overhand  method would be first choice.. Good Luck.

I do to if I am just doing normal sets. Supersets, when your tri's are already bitched, are a whole other story.

I always use an EZ curl bar and I have my head off the edge of the bench. Also. I always keep my arms at an angle and never lock the weight out or bring it directly over my head.
