Thailand is a fairly big medical tourism hub. Walk into a Hostpital like Bumrungrad and you could be forgiven for thinking you just arrived in a 5 star hotel.

They use the same drugs as the US, most of the doctors are trained in the US. Many at places like Harvard.

At Bumrungrad, considered one of the top 3 international hospitals here, where perhaps 50% of the clientele are from overseas, expect to pay the following:

Room & Board - about $200-$300 a night depending on the room type you choose ($4,800 in the US)
CT Scan - about $750 ($7,983 in the US)
Anastheasia - about $100-$300 - depending on duration ($4,562 in the US)

And this is considered EXPENSIVE for Thailand.

With the Room & Board - most rooms have a sofa bed so family can stay. There's no visiting hours, you can come when you want and stay all night if you like. The rooms all have 42" wall TVs with cable TV.

Recent trips we have had there - my wife had our daughter, a C-section and 4 nights in hopsital - they do a package for the whole thing including all tests, doctors/surgeons fees, IV meds but not including dressings. Total cost came to $3,500

You are absolutely getting gouged in the US - sure labor is cheaper out here but standard of care is top notch. There is no reason for these prices.

Here is a room in the maternity ward.... standard room...

Old Powerlifting buddy of mine recently had a hip replacement here at the Chiang Mai RAM,

He said the cost worked out 10 times cheaper than it would have back in the states,

They done a perfect job on him as well, he feels like a new man..

Obama is a puppet... he's only doing what his masters tell him to do.

Republican or democrat... it does not matter.

The US is too far gone to save it and it only gets worse from here.

Get prepared.

For most Americans, the thought of paying an extra $.001 in taxes and possibly helping someone else is abhorrent because that is Communism.

On the other hand, getting ripped off by a hospital for $250,000 is fine because that is Capitalism.

Your problem is that you mix up words and sayings like common sense and communism. It is common sense to pay next to nothing for future health services. Communism is political ideology which has died long time ago.

My achilean tendon surgery required a kit. It costed 400$. There was an additional maybe 50-70 $ I paid on top of it. Was lucky because I knew people that knew some people.

Come to the UK and you get healthcare for free.

Be stuck on a filthy ward, with 20 sick people and 2 nurses running around.

The Dr appears for about 45 mins and gives each patient 2-3 minutes of his time with the curtain drawn - and neither prescribes or recommends anything.

My grandad had one horrible, rock-hard little pillow whilst in agony with cancer so we took him our own bedding in, and he stuck 2.5ft away from a guy whom had lung cancer.

This guy was coughing constantly and fighting for his breath. Whilst we were there they drew the curtains and the priest came along to give him his last fairy tale.

When your a "paying" customer they treat you far better. Ive had private healthcare and it's night and day in comparison. Your own room - choose something to eat off a menu etc.

In the UK we have no choice, they take the money in taxes and that's that. There is no "opt out" policy for those who want to make their own arrangements.

Not sure what shithole dump area the hospital you're talking about is in, but where I went with my kidney stones it was great. Shared my ward with two older boys only, had a choice menu and food were superb. Got my CT scan done within the hour of walking in and saw the doctor 20min later for the diagnosis. Only stayed there for a few nights. Saw a urologist twice a day, nurses came round hourly. Pretty damn good I'd say. They even got me a cab home. This was Hampstead Royal Free by the way. I had two more scans booked after that. Got it a week after getting out and the last one a month later to confirm I was in the clear.

My bill in the end?

£0

I'm happy to pay my NI for this service.

This thread is just another prove that Michael Moore was telling the truth in Sicko.. ;D

Is that the reason why he is so hated, because he is telling the truth? Americans don't want to hear truth, they like fairytales much more.. And when Obama try to change this crappy health care system, they hate Obama. Damn how smart they are..

That's a dumb human trait. Despise the truth. Dumb dumb people.

The solution is to eliminate health insurance and go to a cash system.  Free market.

Not going to happen.  The ACA is just a continuation of the the for profit "healthcare" system.  Until we go to single payer, its going to continue onwards.

As Michael Moore mentioned in his legendary film, USA has it's share of similar services, which are paid by communistic system, aka taxes. For example: libraries, police department, fire department, schools etc. Why health care should be different? Answer: IT IS JUST A BUSINESS in USA. If you don't got the money, they don't help you. In other words, they decide if you live or die. In all other matters no one has legal right to leave anybody to die, but US health care business has that right. In other words, if you don't have the money, you life isn't worth of saving, and some fucking health insurance company make this decision for you. Nice, quite nice. And if this bloke who star this thread with his appendicitis doesn't have that 11000$ which he has to pay, what next? He needs the money, so he has to borrow them, and next he has payment plan for next few years, and mortgage etc. to cover it. If he can't pay, bank take the house. That is quite a lot of shit falling on the guy just because he got sick. How to prevent this? COMMUNISM!!! YIPPIKAYEE...wait a minute...I mean common sense ;D

I dont get the "moronic conservatives chiming in" part then.  They'd chime in to say the ACA is a disaster too.  Sounds like everyone is a moron?

This is because Americans do not accept their place as blue or white collar ordinary Joes. They are brainwashed into thinking they too will be millionaires  one day and will become part of the 0.1%.

Yeah I hear that on a daily basis from all my blue collar friends ::)

Guy at the gym is as far right as they come. Totally against universal health care etc. What I have learned about the guy is that he personally went bankrupt twice in a 12 year period. Laughs about how he charged up his credit cards to the max the week before going bankrupt. He said his lawyer told him to do it...A total kunt to the 10th degree...

i cant believe how americans cant look outside the box or their own borders to see that theres many mnay far superior systems.

sure, none are "free", but way superior.

they complain about obamacare, but even that is a shit contruction compared to europe.

fuck, too dumb and greedy(hey its my money), but its ok to be totaly ripped off when sick.

some say but hey have the best doctors, how comes the best doctors go there.

haha how comes, you dumb fucks, bc they earn most money there from the suckers.

the american ppl are being fucked throughout, oraly, mentaly, analy, everywhere by the various lobbyists.

its incomprehensible to me.

this is not a left right politics issue, this is plain stupidity.

yes, a day in hospital costs a shitton of money, and its not worth it to take a loan for that,or even worse, sell the house thats on a mortgage anyway in most cases.

my goodness, i see so much dumbness i dont know where to start the list.

the reality is, many americans work for piss por wages, and another reality is that medical bills are very expensive.

we here pay monthly mandatory insurance, i gladly pay, so fucking what if someone elses health benefits from that.why be a selfish girl in a first world nation.

theres no dispute,no argument, no nothing, i will never listen to any american healthcare system supporter.

they go shopping for meds in mexico, this says it all.

this is not a very honest post.hell no.

in the uk,theres indirect taxes on goods, cigaretes are expensive bc they not sooo healthy, so this tax doesnt afect non smokers.seems fair to me.

thats the opt out right there.in a way.

then, the hospitals, i been to one, had food poisoning, yes agony, yes pains, and yes had to wait long kinda, but got serviced in very uncomplicated way spent a night there and didnt cost a penny, and im not even uk citizen.
hospital was clean and the 2 nurses story certainly isnt true.

ok, its hard to get dentist appointment in london, this i know.

btw, if you want special services theres always harley street in london, no long waiting there.if you tell americans you got no private option in the uk, which is a straight up lie, they gonna believe it.
