possible i guess

i heard that some of those shirts actually make it harder to pull the weight down to your chest than to actually press it  ;D

yup, it's more like testing your tendon and bone strength instead of the muscle

Sure, I guess most of the bigger guys that spend a lot of time in it are getting #200 - 300 out of the multiply stuff. The anomalies are the guys getting less than that.

one reason why imo powerlifting is a joke. that and the terrible form. i'd much rather deadlift 400 with good form and raw than 700 with all that shit on and contort my spine at weird angles.

equipped lifters don't usually focus too much on heavy, full range raw work because

1 - the groove is different from pressing in a shirt

2 - you can get hurt, badly, with raw 1RM's

I don't bother with that shit anymore but you do need to be incredibly strong to be pressing 800+ in any kind of shirt.

A guy I worked with who is a pudgy 170lbs claims a 405lbs bench. Watching a video of it showed what kind of nonsense his bench was. First he inverted his upper body into a reverse U. A really extreme bridge. He then takes a wide grip. He lowers he bar to highest part of his inverted U body. Using a bench shirt gear when the bar touches his lowerchest his arms are barely bent.  The range of motion looks like 8 inches. I'm about the same height and when I bench the ROM is 20" plus inches. He looks like he doesn't even lift but has all these crazy totals in power lifting with gear and lifting tricks to make the lift easier.

Powerlifting has  become a joke. I like Olympic lifting. It shows power unlike so called power lifting. It also shows strength and athleticism. Here's a bar on the floor. Lift it over head or you don't. No bull shit nonsense.

I have a piece of advice from an oldtimer. In bodybuilding you get better development by making the lift harder not easier. This is mainly done by the range of motion and form. Yes, deep squats are harder than delusional almost half squats. Full presses whether for delts or pecs are harder than half reps. If you feel the need to impress others in the gym grab the biggest dumbbells and short stroke everything so you can use them. Load the leg press with the back board upright so your knees hit when they are barely bent.

The guy's one big tricep...gotta wonder what he'd do in a shirt.

Raw powerlifting is becoming way more popular again. The numbers are climbing. I don't get gear. I understand if you're a top guy and are hittiing into the 3's but at my last meet they had a high school kid..what I would call morbidly obese..in a sqaut suit. He got stapled with his opener at 600..got stapled 2 more times and bombed out. What the hell is the point of using gear in highschool? Plus the kid was a monster..not in a good way either. His suit was purple..he looked like a mexican grimace.

In 1972 Big Jim Williams hit 675 raw. The raw record has only gone up 47 pounds in 40 years. The equipped bench has gone up 300+ pounds.

Bench shirts have gotten crazy stupid, but it is the way the sport has went. Everyone on here needs to realize that geared lifters really don't give two shits what all of you think. It is a tool to bench more weight end of story!!! How is it any different then a high jumper doing a pole vault and using a pole to go higher over the bar. Same concept get as high as possible over the bar. What was the Pole Vault record 30 yrs ago as opposed to now?

Its the same thing here with bench shirts, same concept just one uses an assistance tool to move more weight. Trust me I've done both movements and have competed at World level in both Raw and shirted it really is two different training types, you don't just put on a shirt and bench 300 more pounds you have to learn the shirt the groove and how to touch in it.

I myself have now decided to go the route of Raw benching and love it!!!!

WR record now raw is 720
WR record now in a shirt is 1100 yeah they have gotten stupid but again they dont give two shits what you, me or anyone else thinks :)

I use a forklift when I bench.  It doesn't lift the weight for me it just prevents injury and increases my bench by 500lbs

either way I gotta be pretty strong  ::)

Yes. I watched a guy get 500 at a meet RAW and the next week hit 800 with a suit in the 220# class.

High jumping and pole jumping are two different sports Wolfie,a correct analogy would be if you said one high jumper clears 2m,and another guy now uses a trampoline to do the high jump and clears 3m.

You don't think raw and shirted aren't? Two totally different training style.
