Places with high minimum wages have a pretty low unemployed rate because of a thing called economics. What this shmuck doesn't understand is that increasing the wage increases spending and investing potential. Henry ford was famous for arguing for high minimum wages, in order to be consumers of his product.

Also, his analogy is ripe with fallacies, increasing the wage may mean lay-offs but he is presuming that less man power is an option, that firing people is an option, the money will generally come off the profit or out of the consumers pocket, usually the latter.

More money in more peoples hands with abilities to invest, spend and create should be the goal of all countries.

The minimum wage in Ontario was 7 + dollars and it jumped to 10 bucks in one shot and it worked out for everyone and nothing bad happened at all. This argument was present here to but nothing came about it.

There is no way to out smart economic reality.  Business owners are smart and when they are forced to pay more, they pass it on to the consumer.  They aren't just going to eat it.

Median income is higher in the US. US standards of living for the median and average are significantly higher than australia.

If you raise minimum wages and product costs all increase, all you've done is devalue your currency. The entire idea of a minimum wage is moronic and illogical. Even the US Treasury recognized and stated this fact when the US min wage was first introduced, yet somehow a vocal group of populists has succeeded in eradicating common sense among the populace.
