Progress Towards 500 Lb Squat Goal
« on: February 15, 2014, 08:23:10 AM »
Did 425 on squat recently.  500 is the goal.

Any other getbiggers squatting in the 400 or 500 range?

Completed a 12 week squat cycle last week. Final workout was 575 x 2 x 3.  No suit. Big 5 type neoprene knee sleeve. Power belt.   Ran the cycle to help my dead lifts. Seemed to work.

425 for a clean full squat is a solid number. Nice work.

MT, the cycle was a slightly modified version of this. Numbers didn't quite workout but it severed it's purpose.

Congrats on the squat, a solid rep done with ease.

How long did it take you to reach that goal and what kind of program are you using to get to 500?

Not a big squatter over here. I prefer front squats with a ROM to the ground and limited rest.
I can't remember the last time I witnessed someone use full ROM while doing squats. It seems I need to join a new gym.

When I was younger 575 for 3 reps at 180lbs.  After 30 years training, my knees and low back cannot handle that anymore.

20 rep squat workouts will take you where you want to be.  Add more weight each week and keep going for 20 reps.  Back cycle the poundage then do it again, etc...

I watched some rugby dude with 190kg on his back go all the way down, pause for a 3 count then squat up. Sets of 5. Pretty impressive to me.
