Lol what will it do?
It is evidence that they do indeed undertake free surveys.

I thought thats what you wanted.

I call the guy up, massively pissed off as i've been in 2 hours of traffic this morning! The conversation goes like this "Your secretary said it was a free quotation." "No we don't do free quotes"

Now if he did say that it wasnt true was it?

Thanks sososue, but on second looks, it must have been a subsiduary company that did the survey, as they are based in Basildon Essex, not East London....Plus it's an London number on the site

Why do British houses have such nice looking exterior masonry, but weird modern looking windows and doors that never seem to match?

Do windows only come in white in the UK?

The piece of shit has just emailed me again, with this:

"Can you please confirm when you are making payment to us and your method; i.e. BACS, cheque etc?"

This is very disrespectful, as I made several points about communication problems within his company, and he has ignored and just sent that.

I'm actually pissed off right now

Any ideas?

email them an invoice for using the facilities at your house

They are a branch of a larger company, they seem squeaky clean, no history of issues with costomers I can find, I have sourced the company directors details if you want a PM.

Thanks for taking the time to do that sue, much appreciated. The bloke who text/emailed me is 'mike' the director so thankfully i'm not dealing with one of his plebs.

This was my last email, and after rereading it, I won't respond to his latest one - as I said I wouldn't:

"I suggest that you have a stern word with the lady who answers your telephone.

The week before my wife called your business we had a full survey carried out for Rising Damp, through our insurance company and a report was produced.

We subsequently called your company, along with several others for a quotation on some damp coursing work. If we were misadvised, and you don’t carry out free quotes, only surveys, then this is something to take up with your staff who have obviously misadvised us.

I’m not going back and forth about this. Unless you have any new information, or can find any paperwork / recorded telephone call in which we agreed to or ordered a survey, then please chalk this up to communication problems within your company.

Unless you want to visit me at my property and ask me for the money face to face, I suggest you do not contact me again.

To actually prove they visited your property at all they would have to produce evidence of the agreement you made over the phone and that would include the female saying it was a free quote.

I take it without that phone call you could say you have no idea what they are talking about?

Nothing was signed was it?

No, nothing was signed. My wife called the company, and said "Hi, do you do free quotes for damp proofing?" Not a word more, and the idiot on the phone said "Yes we do, what's your address." That was literally the conversation. The guy comes round next day for 10 minutes, has a look round and then tries to charge me £88 quid or whatever is was!

I'm not poor, but its the principle of it. I take after my Cypriot grandfather Yannis - He would battle with a utility company for them to send him outstanding credit even if it was a few pence, and when they finally gave in and sent it he'd throw the cheque in the bin. It was the principle of it all lol

report them to trading standards for attempting to extort money from you for a service they told you was free(as you threatened to to do so if they contacted you again). inform "mike" that you have reported them to trading standards. most companies will not want trading standards sniffing about.

for good measure, under cover of night go and put the windows through in their offices (if you're a bit of a numpty disregard this step, as getting caught doing this will not look good on your record)

Good luck in the solving of this, i like the emails you sent, stirm but fair. Good work!

Nothing is more humiliating then putting another mans name in quotations.

You essentially rob him of all masculinity and self respect.

Nothing like it  ;D
