Back workout
« on: January 15, 2006, 08:05:51 AM »
Here's my back routine; do you guys think I focus too much on the middle back by doing 2 rows exercises? Should I drop one? The thing is a back workout without bb rows doesn't sound like a back workout for me... :-\

1st week
Deadlifts 5sets
Bent over barbell rows 5 sets
Seated Cable Rows 5 sets
Close-Grip Front Lat Pulldown 5 sets
Barbell Shrugs 5 sets

2nd week
Deadlifts 5sets
Bent over barbell rows 5 sets
One-Arm Dumbbell rows 5 sets
Straight-Arm Pulldown 5 sets
Dumbbbell shrugs 5 sets

Alternating the BB with DB for rows looks good.  I would work in some stiff legged DL's on a box to the laces lighter on the second week (or 2 sets per week).  I would also add chins or wide grip pulldowns at least one of the weeks if not both.  I would also do the pulldowns as DB pullovers lying and heavy, every other week is fine.

5 exercises and 5 sets on all sounds a lot. but then again, maybe that's perfectly allright for you with your genetics, experience etc what do i know, you gotta figure that out yourself if you're making progress, if you got enough energy to the exercises and sets at the end of your back day... if not might wanna drop one of the exercises.
i would change pulldowns for chins since theyre harder. maybe also switch from one week to another so let's say week first you start, efter deadlifts with rows... week two you start with chins after deadlifts... otherwise whenever you're about to do chins you will be spent from all the other exercises before that.
just some thoughts

Thanks for the replies. I won't do chins anymore, had surgeries on both of my shoulders and don't want to injure them again. So, two rowing exercises doesn't sound too much for ya? Yeah, I'll do wide grip pulldowns to the front every other week :)

At different times, also substitute T-bar rows & DB/cable pullovers with the other exercises.

Take the v handle that you would use on the lat station & place that under the bar you will be using to do the t-bar rows.

That should work, but it's not as good as having the real thing.
