Does anyone else here box?

Been boxing on and off for 20 years, broken my nose and knuckles around 5 times, now I'm older I calm it down a bit and try to limit it to once a week in the gym ( ring), still do bag work 3 times a week at home (12 rounds on  130 pound bag, 4 rounds on speed bag).Gives me a functional strength (no homo) that goes way beyond lifting weights in the gym.Any other pugilists on Getbig?

Fenced, not boxed competitively.

It's not worth the head injuries. I've seen too many guys in their 40s and 50s whose hands shake uncontrollably and they weren't even hit that many times.

That's why I don't do it to any extreme capacity anymore, I have a parent with parkinsons so I am well aware of the consequences.

I boxed for years... gym level.  never had any desire to fight pro or anything.  HAd a decent skill set.   broke my leg, gained 40 lbs that year.  end story

Since I was 15. My knuckles have little to no feeling but are like rocks. We used to train punching the cement walls to toughen them up. Stupid fucking thing. Probably be arthritic when older. Have had 4 teeth knocked out. Have crowns now.

yes, I have boxed. competed high amateur level, retired because of job & studies. It's great for cardio, discipline & conditioning. However where and whom you train with is very important.
Different gyms have different philosophy.

I love seeing big fatsoes who want to fight and about 5 seconds in both are huffing to the point of almost passing out.

It's universal.  The kicker are the guys that shadow box in the squat rack or cable machines

My dad was a boxer and he taught me how to fight from about 3 years old. He would hold the pads for me and call out combinations. As I got older progressed to the heavy bag, press ups, sit ups and runs. Unfortunately as I reached puberty and my interest in the opposite sex exploded my commitment to boxing took a hit. I still love the sport and follow it avidly but would have trouble fighting sleep now!

Occasionally. I have one that does a high knee skipping trot around the gym between sets.

Haha nä, det var faktiskt via plugget som intresset dök upp! Började med att de tog oss till en fäktningsklubb när vi var små knoddar, sen var man såld! Ett tag iaf
