That was the way it was back then. The first guy I can recall trying to go year 'round with AAS was Robbie Robinson. It was a foolish mistake as it caught up with him in the form of an enlarged heart (completely congenital, LOL!). The guys that I met of the 60s and 70s were for the most part honest about their use of steroids.
I never really asked them how much as that was their business but they didn't hide it behind talk of being "genetic marvels". Well, in any Weider magazine, Uncle Schmoe would do that for them but when I spoke with some of them in the gym they just laughed that off and admitted using steroids. No one really knew what would/could happen long term and therefor used them in a far more cautious manner than the idiots of the past few decades.
