I think part of the opposition to "global warming" is the name. It should actually be called climate change. Since the Earth is a closed system, if some areas get unusually warmer that will in turn cause other areas to get unusually colder. Ocean currents drive worldwide weather patterns, and changes in the temperature of the water and of the air above the water can cause profound changes in worldwide weather patterns.

I think the title 'climate change' is supposed to more accurately reflect what's happening, such as increases in the frequency and severity of natural disasters. Global warming just means the earth is warmer. Climate change takes everything into consideration. I think that's the reason behind the name change.

The Earth's climate is constantly changing and has been for the last 4.5 billion years. The issue is that man-made pollutants are drastically accelerating climate change. The first combustion-engine car was made 128 years ago. In that time man-made CO2 emissions have gone from essentially 0 (there was already a small amount of CO2 in the air because of the Industrial Revolution, but a minute amount by today's standards) to 400 PPM as of 3/2014, the highest level yet recorded by NOAA. Regardless of whether one is a conservative or a liberal, climate change is very real and ~~could have~~ will have severe economic consequences.
