ok this is the 5th time ive sent in my craftsman mower need help

you see they never mentioned anything about the muffler at the sears repair store the whole time theyve been putting on new carbureators , are they really this stupid? its not like ive been paying for anything either all under warranty just a hassel. now i just want to learn what the muffler is supposed to do, is the muffler even essential?

my muffler on my truck is half torn off and still runs like a champ no problem there

everytime they "say" they put in a new carbureator, i actually got my hands on some ethanol free gas this time, so i mowed about 50 foot of grass and it died out again. it fired up great seemed wide the fuck open i was happy then it was puttering and reving up and down then quit

now i could keep takeing it back and my warrenty is about the run out in 1 month. or what else can i do , should i increase the spark gap on the spark plug? ive tried talking to sears managers and no help there either

I posted about this last year as well.  Mine was taken in 4 times and never fixed right.  In fact, I got it back and the next day bolts were flying off of my Craftsman.  I spent hours on the phone with customer service to no real avail.  Worst brand ever.  I took it apart myself and realized the whole thing was fucked.

I went ahead and bought a nice Troy-Bilt with a Honda engine and no carburetor. Expensive, but its the best mower I have ever had.  Starts every single time with one gentle pull, no need for priming or anything.

Also, maake sure you are always adding fuel stabilizer.

You're right about the stabilizer especially. One winter without it, or even a month in some cases and you're carburetor is clogged. Needle valve gets clogged/jammed solid.

I had a brand new Stihl trimmer and I left just a little bit of gas in it for two weeks and the Carb was shot.  I ordered a new one and replaced it myself.  Learned my lesson to get everything out and never leave a drop in.

that der ethanol gas shit, luckily i got me a source of that ethanol free gas. ive had those little bulbs crack and leak because of ethanol shit

it will most likely work. Dumbshit tractor mechanics misdiagnose this all the time. On a sissy push mower haha its ez to find. Its like a half hour job. Take the shroud off the top. Follow your spark plug wire back n there's a piece that is what I'm talking about on a tractor but will be smaller on you push. Take it off. Usually two screws. Clean the flywheel with metal sand paper Emory cloth. Clean the magneto w it too. Put the part back on. Use a thin piece of card board or business card as a gap guide between the part n flywheel wen u put in back on. U usually won't even need a guide cuz it'll seat where faggy craftsman company intended it to sit. I fn hate craftsman mowers n tractors even though I have an old one. Have a deere tho too. Let me know.

no. The magneto doesn't touch the flywheel. There's a paper thin gap. Its just two screws usually. Clean both surfaces. Flywheel n magneto. If it doesn't work get a honda. My power washer, n other mower is honda. U can treat em like shit n they run forever. Had to do a carb clean once on the power washer but that's it. Left gas in it. Wen storing for winter f the stabilizer. Turn your mower upside down drain the gas. Then start it till it quits to run the carb dry

make sure the little vent hole in the gas cap is clear. little shit like vacuum lock in a fuel system can cause exactly what you are describing.

ok i think i have an idea its one of those throttle springs. not the spring on the side of the pull cord where you grab the metal latch that activates the lawnmower but on the other side of the motor after i removed the top casing it seems to not hold still its a real tiny thin spring . it seems to control a pivot thing or an armature i guess thats the trottle peice, because when i push it with that screw drive and hold that peice in place the motor is wide open and strong like a champ, but when when i let it run on its own its wavering, so maybe need to wrap it just right with a clothes hanger

funny you mention that when i bought this mower and mowers in the past they had those tiny fuck holes in the gas cap, im like what in the /\/igger fuck is this, i talked to the manager and they put a normal cap on, i said what kinda asshole thought of putting holes in the gas cap because all kinds of dirt can fly into it

If you live in a winter region the gas in the tank and in the carb will go bad because of the corn alcohol in it. Best to run the mower dry for it's last use. The gas today goes bad in 2-3 months, so no old gas.

Great advices.  I was going to post pretty much the same thing.  I learned this lesson and I always empty the tank before the winter and run the mower dry before I put it away.
