Insane motorcycle crash at 140mph from the motorcyclist’s POV

A guy I know who is LE said that he was on patrol in a rural area at night where he came upon a bike lying in the road with it's lights on and it was still running. It had hit a deer and then a telephone pole. He looked for the rider and couldn't find him. He then looked up and the guy had been thrown up into the telephone wires.

Another LE had told me about coming on scene to a bike accident. He said that the bike had hit a guard rail...and apparently the rider went under it and it decapitated him. The officer went looking for the helmet. And he found it, with the head still in the helmet.

I know a trauma doctor who is a contributor and see him at fund raisers frequently.  He despises all motorcycles, calls them "murdercycles".  Whenever the subject comes up, and it does a lot with him, he calls for the outlawing of motorcycles at the Federal level.

Are u that stupid? 80 plus mph in a 35, the idiot on the bike got what he deserved. No way can a guy in normal traffic gage head on speed. Screw the jerk on the bike. The truck driver btw was questioned and that was all. It was obvious to all who was at fault. What your starting is like the guy who breaks into someone's house and sues because he fell over something he could not see.

a month or two back, I nearly crushed a motorcyclist.   He was coming up in a 45 mph, going at least 80.  I was legally changing lanes at 43 mph like the normal schmuck does.  He swerves (he anticipated having that slot open).

He pull up next to me, 2 lanes over at the red light, flipping the bird and yelling thru his helmet about motorcyclists rights.   125 pounds wearing the helmet, skinny little punk.  I begged him to de-bike and come on over, but he didn't... sped out and reached 100+ mph in a few seconds.  

Locally, the guys riding harleys get killed time to time, by drunks late at night.  They take care of their bikes, they ride the speed limit (or a little above) and they GIVE A SHIT.

Then you have the kids, under 25, driving crotch rockets at 100 mph, screaming about their rights.  Cant stand them when they drive illegally and demand everyone respect them.

Absolutely in the wrong. The left turning vehicle in America does not have the right of way in any state.

Wrong bud. When the left turning vehicle does not see the bike approaching at 80 mph jumping into the next lane from two that merge into one. He had no idea the guy was there until the last second. I know this guy he said he thought the bike was going to kill him. He got out of his truck looked back and fell to his knees in shock. He literally had no time to see this a hole speeding and changing lanes.

It's stories like these that make me glad that I never got the itch to want to ride motorcycles. You're so vulnerable on a bike. You can be the most disciplined, skilled driver there is but there's no accounting for the idiots that drive alongside you. Especially now with all of these fuckheads that are texting and driving and rolling into the next lane that you're driving in.

My father is 71, god bless him. Has been in a couple of accidents on a motorcycle that weren't too serious. but even to this day he continues to ride. Even owns a Hyabusa that he takes out to ride from time to time. Crazy old fucker.

While I agree that there are ducked up drivers.......I always laugh at how motorcyclists think that they are never in the wrong or that it's the other driver they have to worry about when they cause more of the problem. Showing off how fast they can change lanes and cut people off.

I used to hang out with friends that did this a lot... probably ten years back.  They were going so fast up near the interstate that they already knew they would get away with it, if police tried pulling them over.   They were going over 100 mph.  If anything resembling a cop came into their view or rear-view, they would literally drive a mile and turn down a sidestreet and completely disappear behind a house or building before the cop could catch up.  They all laughed about it, how many times they tried to stop them, and they got away.  Then one day, one of the dudes ran into the back of a trash truck and was killed instantly.  Everyone melted about how his fmaily should sue, how the system was "fixed" so nobody pressed charges.   

I dont know they don't literally take away the drivers license for 5 years, if a dude is caught riding a bike 50 mph over the limit.

Thanks for sharing! I ride motorcycles myself, never had a crotch rocket though, decided they were too dangerous. There are so many things that can go wrong when you drive fast, a car doing something unpredictable like changing lanes without looking or signaling, left turns etc. Some insurance companies did statistics over it and of all accidents involving a car and a motorcycle the driver of the car was responsible for the accident in 64-85% of the cases.

Still, as a driver of a car you can't predict a motorcycle appearing from nowhere when they zoom up in 100+

Lesson to be learned: Stay away from cars as much as possible and be prepared for the worst from them. Cars are more dangerous than the speed of the bike, if there were no cars on the road it would be pretty safe to drive fast (with the exception of deer), just like on the track.

Had a buddy who bragged about making it to Houston from Dallas in less than 3 hours (260 miles).

He said the cops would never mess with him cause they knew they would never catch him.

Same guy ended up getting in a bad wreck on I-45 and died in the ambulance. Left a one month old little girl behind and a wife. It's a shame too cause he was a really good guy.

I remember three kids getting killed on rockets within a relatively short time. Gym employee, saved for six months to buy a Honda Hurricane, killed within a week of purchase. Childhood friend taking his buddy's Ninja for a neighborhood lap, hit an overpass pylon on his first left turn. Third guy, a gym acquaintance, broadsided by a car while he was exiting his school's parking lot. All in the same year.

I still bought one, but sold it shortly after. Way too much power for an inexperienced kid. Dude I sold it to totaled it the next week. Fuck the rockets.

I went down on I-95 doing about 55 in traffic one evening after work... It was a low side so I just picked it up, got on the side, moved the throttle cable back into position and went home.

Bikes are just what they are... I keep my speed on the track and I don't do dumb things if at all possible.

You give up security for maneuverability... You just have to use what you have as well as possible and watch out for idiots.

agreed. My first bike was a Kawasaki LTD 400 (cruiser) and rode it 3yrs before going to GSXR750 of which I rode for several years before getting a Bandit 1200. Then when in my 30's decided I was ready for the high end bikes like Hayabusa, CBR1100xx and GSXR 1000. I've been riding since age of 17 and even now (36) I still respect the power of these liter bikes...they are literally rockets between your legs.

 I get sick every time I see some 22yr old kid buy a R1 knowing he's probably going to kill himself or someone else. They should license bikes different.  600cc for several years without accidents to move up to under 1000cc for a couple years then after like 5yrs allow 1000cc and up license.

It may save some lives, though I'm guessing an asshat is going to be a idiot on whatever he rides regardless of cc

Only thing, the 600 is still too much. All you can do is be extra careful, drive defensively, and carry a rabbit's foot. And make sure your donor card is filled out.

Probably would kill Hardly Davidsons sales though. Since the older guys buying them (and can afford it) usually buy 800lbs 1800cc "hogs" and think they can ride cause they used to ride dirt bikes when they were kids.

Before I had my bike accident, I never had a broken bone in my body.  I had never even been in a hospital before.  And then in one instant, I had broken bones galore and was very familiar with hospital life.

I ride like everyone on the road is a shit driver and is out to kill me. It wont save me from every problem but cuts some down. I'm often enraged by some of the idiots that shoot past me on their bikes.

i ride a custom softail deluxe..got $40k+ in it. im the same as you. ride like you are invisible. never had an accident..have had some dodgy instances, but if you ride at a speed where others can judge- i.e. what is expected, and respect others, then theres not much problem. it isnt a death sentence.

i ride for the nostalgia and appreciation of the machine...not for the thrill of risk, or a sense of insane speed.

Harley riders seem to have much better odds than the sportsbike guys. I'd imagine it has a lot to do with average age of the two groups. Never had any serious incidents on my chop, but I was much older and more experienced by then. Still had a few close calls, though. Always with lane changes, it seemed.
