Rather than compare your drinking to cigarette smoking and thereby somehow rationalize it, could you explain why you returned to drinking after you proclaimed you were going to quit drinking?
Because he has nothing to replace it with yet.

When something that's become a coping mechanism in your life is suddenly removed without warning or conditioning prior to the discontinuation of said mechanism, it leaves you without a gaping hole in your mind and body. You can try to replace it with something healthy like exercise, but the need never goes away. Because your brain's created the association between that mechanism and comfort/relief/peace/relaxation/happiness. No one likes to get unhappy by choice. That's why most people go back to their habits sooner or later, whether permanently or off & on.

It does but the moment you feel the cold, the drunkenness wears off. It's why so many drunks freeze in the winter. They feel warm for an hour then you're a fish stick.

When I was in California and drinking, I enjoyed the experience much more. So I'm glad I don't live there.

Ireland is an eternally cold shithole and more than half us are eternally pissed. It goes beyond weather. Sweden and Finland drink loads, so do warm places. Thing is, getting sick on streets is accepted here (Ireland).

Northern Europeans and the Irish have genetic resistance to drunkenness, though. Takes more to get the average person there pissed compared to an African or a Native Indian, who haven't been exposed to it for centuries.

Sad that that's true. Our Celtic ancestors drank themselves to oblivion so that I could type this post after 3 bottles of wine and 1 can of beer and counting.

My point was addiction is universal, be it alcohol here or sniffing glue in Kenya.

Once you get drunk and smoke a pack of cigs, you don't go back to drinking and not smoking again.

I used to smoke when I drank, then one day, I just stopped. I'm talking close to a half pack a night. It went together so good, but I hated hacking in the morning. I don't miss it.

I can stop both, cold turkey, so far for up to 11 months straight. But not one without the other. That's just not realistic.

I smoke 25-30 cigars a day. Yes I inhale. Trying to cut down now, I smoke 5 through the night everytime I wake from sleeping.

Eat, drink, and be merry.  ;)

So you are drunk again.

I guess in another few days some more regret posts.

I guess on the bright side, the booze dulls your libido to the point you don't really mind being alone.

Imagine coming off the booze, your sex drive returning and not being able to get it taken care of.... Scary stuff.

That does happen. He goes to the mall, sees a good looking girl he knows wouldn't let him talk to her (true, hotties are kunts), or worse holding some other stud's hand, and then his next stop is Walgreens so he can buy a bottle of liquor and go home to calm his nerves and post here some more.

And so the cycle continues. Moral of the story. Blame women.

there are all the reasons in the world to keep drinking or indeed smoking

to quit its as simple as a desire to do it and having the will power to follow through

everything else is an excuse

The same goes for dieting to drop to single digit body fat levels.

It's a simple process. You reduce calories, lift weights, do cardio if necessary at the end, and be patient. But 99.9% of people can't do it.

In conclusion, being shredded through quitting junk food and being in a calorie deficit is harder than quitting any other vice.

I need to learn how to think that way instead of personalizing everything. Argh. Relativity.

we could all do with doing that

ultimately we all take things personally

because we try and relate them to us

its just being human

He's been demoted from the shipping department to the skid-wrapping machine. The relegation has to do with his unhealthy crimson skin tone when pulling 200lbs on a hand-pump forklift.

Cows also have better pecs.
