So newbs will listen to people like Louie Simmons or Dave Tate talk about stuff like this, not knowing that geared-lifters are the intended audience, and will attempt to apply these techniques to their own pathetic lifts
[raises hand]That was me. I got "coached" by a Westside Louie Simmons guy. He was giving me the business about "ripping the bar apart" as I was "pulling" 135 down. I remember thinking "WTF is this guy going on about?"
I believe it is rooted in the technique for shirted bench pressing.... some of the shirts are so stiff you need to literally pull the bar to get it to touch your chest. So newbs will listen to people like Louie Simmons or Dave Tate talk about stuff like this, not knowing that geared-lifters are the intended audience, and will attempt to apply these techniques to their own pathetic lifts
As you all know...I'm a dick and have a big mouth. (Insert gift joke here)Thing is I seem to have accepted a challenge from a rather large, strong, lifelong powerlifter....to a bench press competition. We both turn 50 in June , that's kinda the crux of it. I have no idea of his max, be seems about the same as me, probably higher max because he has way better technique. It's friendly, he's a cool guy...but fuck that I want to win...and I'm sure he's thinking the same thing.I'm taking Superdrol ( ha ha fuck him) ...need some technique/training .pointers.
Any particular reason your not taking him on in deadlift or squat? Oh that's right, I forgot....you're a fairy who doesn't train legs. That's okay. You'll still get smashed on the bench because you're a weak pussy.
Groink versus Coach.
Spot on
The secret is in trying to "rip the bar apart" while you press. Then and only then will you be a master of this lift.
Don`t forget to bring your elbows in and keep them from flaring out. Worst fucking advice ever.
Is that how you manage to get that massive 135 up?
Yes.
You guys should train minimum 8 weeks for it Groink.......not enough time IMO.
Do you mean like pulling outward or pushing inward on your grip on the bar? Sounds interesting
lol...the easier term to visualize is 'break the bar', like you're trying to break a stick or a pencil.
Oh, okay... not to sound so dense, but which way? so that it would break upwards or downwards or towards your feet or head? Upwards I assume?
grabbing the bar, you want to try to push your index finger knuckles forward and your pinky knuckles towards you.
Had one of my lifting buddies tear a pec last night. Strong kid, very good bencher for his weight. 4th rep on 375 and RIP.
did he have any pain or tightness going into the set
