the 50 year old bench press challenge.
« on: May 18, 2014, 03:08:19 PM »
As you all know...I'm a dick and have a big mouth.  (Insert gift joke here)

Thing is I seem to have accepted a challenge from a rather large,  strong, lifelong powerlifter....to a bench press competition. We both turn 50 in June , that's kinda the crux of it.

I have no idea of his max, be seems about the same as me, probably higher max because he has way better technique.  It's friendly, he's a cool guy...but fuck that I want to win...and I'm sure he's thinking the same thing.

I'm taking Superdrol ( ha ha fuck him)  ...need some technique/training .pointers.

Superdrol + too heavy a weight = pec tear.

Its not worth it, you will likely look like shit for the rest of your life after that.

Get two benches put fake plates on yours and real plates on his, that should teach him a lesson.

The secret is in trying to "rip the bar apart" while you press. Then and only then will you be a master of this lift.

When I saw the title, I assumed you had pushed Karen too far and she challenged you to a bench contest.

You're on to something here... cheat, but do it without chemicals. Well, with chemicals but also traditional cheating. Almost makes you natural.

This:
Superdrol + too heavy a weight = pec tear.

Its not worth it, you will likely look like shit for the rest of your life after that.

And this:
how about you people do 225 for as many reps as possible instead

safer

more useful

equally hard challenge

Best of luck though, stay healthy

Don't forget to "push your feet through the floor"

That is also key.

I think you should also implement some Slingshot work into your bench routine.

Also make sure you keeo your rep range under 5. Anything more than that its all for hypertrophy.

Lastly, make sure to eat plenty of complex/clean carbs and BCAA intraworkout supplementation.

Do you mean like pulling outward or pushing inward on your grip on the bar? Sounds interesting

I believe that the bullshit "cue" (oh brother) is to "rip the bar apart" on the eccentric phase of the lift. On the press, you'll "push your feet through the floor" while "squeezing your lats".

Note that none of these things is gonna get that bar off your sternum.

I believe it is rooted in the technique for shirted bench pressing.... some of the shirts are so stiff you need to literally pull the bar to get it to touch your chest.

So newbs will listen to people like Louie Simmons or Dave Tate talk about stuff like this, not knowing that geared-lifters are the intended audience, and will attempt to apply these techniques to their own pathetic lifts
