Irish people in general are very friendly and welcoming. Probably because we were a small country subject to colonialism for hundreds of years. There is a small mindedness here though which drives me crazy at times, we don't have the expansive attitude that many Americans have. The American dream might be fading but that attitude that even if you're in shit circumstances you can make it is sorely missing here.

People despise success (bar a 10 year period when we were "rich" (on credit and buying each other's houses). I can't stand that attitude. Public service and civil servants complain about everything and get paid because they are such a large voting block.
