Dead lifting @165lbs whats half way desent
« on: February 03, 2006, 03:35:11 AM »
I have a bench press competition coming up for the 25 of feburary, they also have deadlifting going on as well. A friend of mine is trying to get me to do the dead lift as well, but i've never really deadlifted. I'll be in the 165lb class, while my bench is real strong and im sure ill place (last competition i got 350) i wouldnt want to embarass my self with a weak deadlift. Yesterday i played around with deadlifting as my friend was wondering if i could get 315, i was able to do that but not sure how much more i could get. I think when the comp rolls around i should at least be able to do 330
(ive been natural all my life so i dont think ill be making to large of gains) which would be double my weight, is that real bad? Im hoping that im able to put up over 400 on the bench for this comp, which would put my total around 730ish is that respectable.

obviously u never trained it much and also u r natural as am i and my firend.

at the end of this cycle at 19yrs of age i hope to pull 500lbs.

i can see no reason if u trianed it y u cudnt be hitting400- 450lbs in a yr. i would say that is good. not excellent or amazing but a very respectable mark for a natural athlete.

500 aint bad at 165 for a local or state level meet, for a national or world class meet you'd have to pull at least high 600's to be competitive.

3x bodyweight is a good lift in the dead and squat, double bodyweight in the bench.

no, the meet is nothing big, just a local YMCA thing they put on.only have 15 days to train, hmm my only hoe is that everybody else cant deadlift.
im more likely to hit 3x my weight for benching then squatting or deadlifting as i havent been training on those for a while.
gonna hit the gym again tonight and see if i can improve some maybe ill get 2x my weight :-\

Smokeinhawk,  Don't worry about what others are doing.  Compete against yourself and before long you will surprise yourself.  Don't listen to internet BS about what clown posters can do.  Every powerlifter started some where.  If you can do 315 then aim for 320 goal. You get to a  big goal in small increments.  Stay natural and don't concern yourself with what drug takers can do.  When they get off the juice their temporary inflated lifts and physique disappears too.

Jeez man, you got 350 on bench?  At 165lbs and 5'9" you must be shredded.  Thats impressive to me, I am ignorant to the sport of powerlifting but my own bench is far under that and I outweigh you by 15lbs.  Maybe I should look into this style of training....

Dont let anyone tell you what is a "good enough" lift.

I'm sure you look at numbers and can see where your weak points are, keep with them and train them and they will come up.

and good job on the 370. Mentally, thats where you are now and will be building from there. Deadlift should shoot up
