Was at the game.  It was perfect.
Nice. Nothing better than a day at the ballpark. I love everything about it. Gonna get the Yankees cap, with the Jeter thingy, for a friend for X-Mas.

He is a first time HOFer easily. Great role model. By all accounts, a great man.

He does not make my top 5 Yankees though.

My top 5 Yankees:

1. Ruth
2. Gehrig
3. Dimaggio
4. Mantle
5. Rivera
6. Jeter
7. Berra

Its tradition. They have done it for other players as well.

He's probably the last guy who will get one of these for a while.

Rivera is more iconic than any of those guys.

Reggie and Winfield played for a handful of teams each.

Bernie was a very good Yankee, but both Rivera and Jeter meant more to the team.

You could argue about Rizzuto and Ford being in the Yankees top ten.

Yeah...it's crazy. The team had 17 consecutive losing season up until 2 years ago. They are coasting into the playoffs on a losing streak which is a little unsettling. Not having Chris Davis' bat in the lineup for the playoffs is unsettling as well.

I don't think it's fair to use WAR to compare every day players to relief pitchers.

Top relievers tend to get the same WAR scores as average ballplayers.

In addition, there are severe variances on the defensive side of the WAR coin, so I have no faith in those numbers being attributed to players who played before the stat even exisited.

I get you on that, I'm just not sold on it being fair for relievers, or comfortable with the limitations surrounding defensive metrics in general, let alone applying those metrics to games that took place almost 100 years before the stat was invented.

Nowadays, UZR has the benefit of having every ball hit tracked and recorded, as well as the players subsequent involvement in the play.  Even with that, the inventor of the stat claims it's not really accurate with sample sizes under three years.   I don't know how that part of WAR gets tracked for games that aren't even filmed.

Cap bought. Did the cool Jeter name/number-stitching thingy on the back. Cost $60+. Swore I would never pay more than $40 for a hat. What an idiot.   ::)       ;D

Nice.

The merchandise was nuts at the stadium for the last game.  I bought a "final game" hat, but then just a bunch of programs and pins to give out to friends.

Superior thinking. Should have done that, too.
