Guys like Saddam and Gaddafi kept a lid on all this shit. Islamic fundamentalism needs a godless despot to keep it in check. Democracy is tantamount to giving it food, water and sunshine.

Agree with you we can pick many historical  examples of the past. The challenge has always been to learn from the mistakes of the past not just by US government but many other regimes which we can point the finger of blame to.

I am talking mainly about the post World War 2 era and the establishment of the Geneva Convention and Human Rights which were designed precisely for that purpose.

There are rules of engagement, convention, the United Nations, protocol has to be followed by civilized nations before engaging in military action.

And yes there is a fucking huge difference in moral compass and judgment by modern day US government, NATO & the UN than say a brutal dictator like Milosevic slaughtering his own people in Bosnia through ethnic cleansing.

There is a huge difference between removing dictators like Saddam Husein gassing his own people than 4 students blowing up the underground stations in London killing innocent civilians and "terrorists" driving planes into the twin towers killing people who literally had nothing to do with any political agenda.

Modern day post 2nd World War US governments have done far more good than bad in the world

The alternatives of not removing fuck heads like Saddam Husein, Kadafi and Milosevic would have been beyond comprehension and far worse than anything imaginable.

There is a reason they are the world Police Man and for very good reason.

Imagine if Saddam really did have access to Nuclear Weapons or Iran got to develop one

Me and you might not be sitting here debating about this right now and I am not being dramatic saying that

Human rights = nonsense on stilts.

So the West can have Nuclear arms and not fire them at each other but Middle Eastern countries cant be trusted?

And if Saddam was still in power in Iraq they wouldn't be in the mess they are in now.

Really? The single bloodiest day in USMC history since WWII occurred on his watch and he did absolutely nothing about it.

What day was this?  I'm sure repubs on the political board would disagree.

You sure about that?
Mokusatsu
Truman, Stalin, Churchill and Chiang Kai-Shek made the Postdam Declaration in July of 1945. The declaration was quite firm:

“We call upon the government of Japan to proclaim now the unconditional surrender of all Japanese armed forces, and to provide proper and adequate assurances of their good faith in such action. The alternative for Japan is prompt and utter destruction.”

For good measure, the Allies dropped leaflets explaining the terms of surrender in Japanese and broadcast them over the radio. Everyone was aware of the terms, and everyone knew the world was waiting for an answer.

In Tokyo, Premier Suzuki was questioned by reporters about Japan’s response. Behind the scenes the military refused “unconditional surrender” on principal, while some believed that Japan could make a land invasion so bloody that the allies would negotiate an armistice on Japan’s terms rather than demand total surrender. Estimates were being drawn: 10,000 aircraft and pilots could be trained for last-ditch kamikaze missions that would have wiped out 400 US transport boats; citizens were being armed with every kind of spare weapon, from swords to farming tools. One high-school girl was handed a leather-crafting awl and told to kill at least a single American soldier with it. The goal was to force the military into killing every man from 15 to 70 and every woman from 17 to 65, who were now elevated from mere citizens into the “Civilian Defense Force” of Japan.

Others, to their credit, saw that this would be madness, and advocated full surrender. The Emperor would eventually agree. But none of them were aware that the US wasn’t planning a land invasion. None of them could have imagined the alternative.

With this all occurring behind the scenes, Suzuki gave a boilerplate answer: “No comment.”

The Japanese verb for withholding comment is mokusatsu(suru), which you could better understand culturally as, “We’ll wait in silence until we can speak with wisdom.” The problem with this answer is that it has a number of connotations, including one that could best be understood as the more dismissive, “We will wait in silence until we can speak about something wise,” more in line with “This doesn’t even merit a response.” Japanese language is vague; the source of the wisdom here is supposed to be implied. Is the wisdom coming from reasoned discussion? Or are you refusing to answer a stupid question?

Tokyo reporters could have gone either way. They decided that the Premier said the Potsdam Declaration was “not worthy of discussion.” Coming from the Premier of the Japanese Government, the Allies saw this as an official refusal of terms. It seemed insane given the state of Japan, but so, too, were kamikaze pilots and an army of teenage girls armed with leather crafting tools. One could easily assume that the entire nation would destroy itself rather than surrender – that was, after all, what it had said for the entire duration of the war.

In Japan, the view is that Suzuki said they were thinking about it.

Hiroshima was bombedwithin 10 days.

That is exactly what I am saying.
Does the US government gas it own people or use chemical warfare against its neighboring nations like Iraq did? (talking about last 30 years please don't quote WW2, different era)
Does the US government cut your hand off if they catch someone stealing like they currently do in Saudi Arabia?
Does the US government hang homosexuals like they do in Iran?

What possibly makes you think there isn't literally a world of difference between the US Government and most of the archaic regimes of the Middle East who with respect are still stuck in the middle ages mentality and can be trusted with Nuclear weapons?

It would literally be a catastrophe and ignite world war 3.

Waco?

Its all about perspective, some people are twats some people are nice.

Did it not occur to you when Middle eastern countries gas people its to save lives on the whole.
I have had that argument thrown at me with regards the A bombs.

Works both ways.

Oh, and the Russian government are pretty reckless at home and they dont go firing A bombs everywhere.

How many people would have died on both sides if there was no bomb dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?  It would have been many many more.  The Japanese were NOWHERE close to surrender or ending their war, they were ready to fight until the end.

The US wanted to strengthen their bargaining position at Potsdam. They thought it would scare Stalin shitless. They didn't know the Manhattan Project was being leaked to the USSR and were caught off guard by his brass balls.

This, like most of my posts in this thread that are true, factually accurate and not sensationalist, will surely go unnoticed too.

Strange he didn't act like this when Bush was in charge. Much as Bush was a retard in many facets (nearly all) he gave across the impression that if you fucked with him expect war, consequences be damned.

Your analysis is too simplified. Putin cares about himself and his fellow oligarchs. He doesn't care about the common Russian man. During the last few months' trade embargo by other countries, the price for potatoes has risen 70%. Imagine how tough that is for poor Russians who are just trying to get by.

Not to mention vodka. Bit sad that Smirnoff were more affected by the gay protest over Sochi and Putin than they are for invading a neighbour and sabre rattling to start WW3.

Even if there are no wars or attacks, within 30 years all countries will be Muslim majority. That's in your lifetime.  See the birth rate. 8 per family for Muslim vs 1.3 for us.

We once had a president that these towel heads would have called "sir" even behind his back.

He won the Cold War, lowered tax rates, was anti-union, anti-communist, he gave free enterprise and limited government interaction with businesses. He revived the American economy after Carter destroyed it, and led the US with truth, justice, freedom and prosperity.  He had something lacking in politics today and that's charisma.

I found his speeches to be inspirational..now we get to hear from a guy that is high or just woke up.

Being in Europe we should be worried about Putin encroaching further and further towards us. USA haven't done a thing, NATO is starting to think of something

Let's play a game of true or false:

T or F?
EU sanctions force Russia's only low-cost airline forced to cease operations

T or F?
Sanctioned Russian banks are already turning to the government for aid

T or F?
Four Russian tourist companies have folded in the last three weeks, stranding tens of thousands of Russians abroad

T or F?
The ruble has hit an all-time low as a result of large investor exodus

T or F?
Russia has suspended pension fund savings for the year, signalling a potential pension system collapse

T or F?
Russian stocks sink lower as an import ban and a surprise rate spike have sent Russian bond yields (i.e., Putin's cost of borrowing) to multi-year highs

T or F?
The Russia economy was projected to grow 0.2% in 2014...before the latest round of sanctions were announced

T or F?
The US and EU have signaled that even more sanctions are on the way.

If all of the above were true, would you still maintain that the US and EU have done 'nothing'? If not, what else should be they doing? Lobbing nukes?

Putin doesnt care what other countries think about him or Russia. If he wants to wipe out the whole middle east he will do so.
