Actually, it does matter.

You are implying that the secret service sucks because they are all liberal democrats.

I would like to understand why you are making that implication.

It doesn't seem very likely that the Secret Service is full of liberal democrats as you are making it out to be.

I would be willing to wager, that as a group involved with some sort of law enforcement, it would be the exact opposite and there would be many more conservative Republicans as opposed to liberal Democrats.

Whatever the case - its worse now

How is it worse?

You mean it's worse than Reagan getting shot? Or Kennedy being assassinated? It's worse than those instances?

Please explain.

We have a ton more $$$ devoted to SS now.   Plus - gaybama promised . .   .

I highly doubt we have a ton more $$$ devoted to SS for protecting the president himself than we did during Reagan, I would like to see the numbers with inflation of course.

He promised no one would infiltrate the white house?

BREAKING NEWS Monday, September 29, 2014 4:55 PM EDT

Intruder Got Deep Into White House, Official Says
A man who jumped the White House fence this month made it far deeper into the president’s home than previously disclosed, overpowering a female Secret Service agent inside the North Portico entrance and running through the East Room before he was tackled, according to a congressional official familiar with the details of the incident.
The man, Omar J. Gonzalez, was finally stopped as he tried to enter the Green Room, the official said. Earlier, Secret Service officials had said Mr. Gonzalez, 42, had only made it steps inside the North Portico after running through the front door.
The new development, first reported by The Washington Post, will create an explosive hearing on Tuesday when a bipartisan panel of lawmakers intends to grill Julia Pierson, the director of the Secret Service, about whether a lax and undisciplined culture inside the long-heralded agency has badly eroded its ability to protect the president and his family, several members of Congress said Monday.

Still not sure what that has to do with a political affiliation... Which is what you are inferring it to be.

Affirmative action hires at best.

The man who scaled the White House fence and was able to run through the front doors made it farther into the building than was previously reported, CBS News has learned.

The man, 42-year-old Omar J. Gonzalez, ran unobstructed for 70 yards across the front lawn of the White House before entering through the North Portico. On the way, he brushed by a Secret Service officer with a drawn gun, sources tell CBS News’ Bill Plante.

Gonzalez then proceeded to run through the entrance hall to the cross hall of the White House, past the staircase that leads up to the first family’s residence. He was confronted by a female Secret Service agent, who he overpowered, and made it all the way to the East Room, Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, told CBS News, citing whistleblowers.

Previously, it was reported that Gonzalez only made it through the north doors of the White House – which were apparently unlocked – before being apprehended by the Secret Service.

The man who jumped over the White House fence and sprinted through the main floor of the mansion could have gotten even farther had it not been for an off-duty Secret Service agent who was coincidentally in the house and leaving for the night.

The agent who finally tackled Omar Gonzalez had been serving on the security detail for President Obama’s daughters and had just seen the family depart via helicopter minutes earlier. He happened to be walking through the house when chaos broke out and the intruder dashed through the main foyer, according to two people familiar with the incident.

Gonzalez, 42, was the first person in modern memory to jump over the White House fence and get into the mansion, largely the result of a failure of numerous layers of Secret Service security on the northern fence line.

Though the Secret Service initially said that Gonzalez was quickly detained inside the front door, The Washington Post reported Monday that the man actually made it well into the house before he was tackled on the far southern side of the 80-foot-long East Room. Once he burst inside the unlocked front door, Gonzalez, a former Army veteran, overpowered one Secret Service officer and, on his journey, sprinted past a stairway that leads up half a flight to the first family’s living quarters.

The additional information about the incident came as Secret Service Director Julia Pierson was being grilled on Capitol Hill about the Gonzalez incident and other security lapses revealed in Washington Post stories in recent days. The Post on Sunday detailed the agency’s fumbling response to a November 2011 shooting, in which a man fired a semiautomatic rifle into the White House residence while Sasha Obama was home, but the Secret Service discounted the gunshots on Constitution Avenue as a shoot-out between rival gangsters.

In the breach this past month, Gonzalez, who was carrying a knife, reached the doorway to the Green Room, a parlor overlooking the South Lawn with artwork and antique furniture, according to three people familiar with the incident.

Pierson confirmed in the hearing Thursday that, despite the Secret Service’s earlier assertion that Gonzalez was arrested inside the front door, Gonzalez was able to get far deeper into the White House and was eventually tackled outside the Green Room.

Lawmakers from both parties criticized Pierson and her agency for giving misleading and partial accounts of the security breach. The new information about the key role of an agent who happened to be in the building but was not part of the security team may raise further questions.

Pierson did not reveal during her testimony that the agent who tackled him was not actually assigned to the post where he confronted Gonzalez.

The agent, according to people familiar with the incident, who previously worked as a counter-assault team member, could easily have been outside or on his way home.

No officers are assigned to guard the steps to the Obama family’s private living quarters when the first family is not in the complex.

“There’s no telling how long this guy could have run around if the detail guy hadn’t happened to be there,” one person said on the condition of anonymity.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Facing blistering criticism from Congress, Secret Service Director Julia Pierson acknowledged on Tuesday that her agency failed in its mission of protecting the White House when a man with a knife entered the mansion and ran through half the ground floor before being subdued.

"It's unacceptable," Pierson told lawmakers. But her promised review of how the storied but blemished agency carries out its mission of protecting the president - and how it failed to intercept the intruder much earlier - left lawmakers from both parties cold. With key details of the extraordinary intrusion still a mystery 11 days afterward, several lawmakers said the agency should be subjected to an independent inquiry.

"I wish to God you protected the White House like you protected your reputation here today," Democratic Rep. Stephen Lynch told Pierson at a hearing.

Calm but defensive in testimony before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Pierson disclosed that shortly before the intruder jumped the fence Sept. 19, at least two of her uniformed officers recognized him from an earlier troubling encounter but did not approach him or report his presence to superiors.

On Aug. 25, Army veteran Omar J. Gonzalez was stopped while carrying a small hatchet near the fence south of the White House, Pierson said. Weeks later, the same officers observed him "for some time" but never intervened. Gonzalez later went over the fence and broke inside the White House.

President Barack Obama and his daughters had left for Camp David shortly before the episode; Michelle Obama had gone to the retreat earlier in the day.

"The fact is the system broke down," declared committee chairman Darrell Issa. "An intruder walked in the front door of the White House, and that is unacceptable."

Not only that, he said, but the intruder penetrated at least five rings of security protecting what is supposed to be one of the world's most secure properties.

"How on earth did it happen?" he asked. "This failure ... has tested the trust of the American people in the Secret Service, a trust we clearly depend on to protect the president."

After the public hearing, which lasted more than three hours, Pierson and the lawmakers went into a closed meeting to discuss classified details.

Democratic Rep. Matt Cartwright of Pennsylvania called the Sept. 19 intrusion "stunning, outrageous, disgraceful."

Despite the lapses, Pierson asserted that "the president is safe." And she said of the intrusion, "I'll make sure that it does not happen again."

Obama's spokesman, Josh Earnest, urged the Secret Service to release results from its investigation as soon as possible, although he added that parts are likely to remain classified. He said Obama remains confident in the agency.

The president "was obviously concerned about this situation as a parent and as a father who is raising two young women here in this building," Earnest said Tuesday, and "there is legitimate public interest in this matter because it relates to the safety and security of the commander in chief."

Pierson's assurances fell short for lawmakers from both parties, who were aghast, too, about a four-day delay in 2011 before the Secret Service realized a man had fired a high-powered rifle at the White House.

The Washington Post reported on the weekend that some Secret Service officers believed immediately that shots had been fired into the mansion but they were "largely ignored" or afraid to challenge their bosses' conclusions that the shooting was not directed at the White House.

Such breaches, combined with recurring reports of misbehavior within the agency, cause "many people to ask whether there is a much broader problem with the Secret Service," said Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, top Democrat on the committee.

Lynch told the agency's chief at the hearing he had "very low confidence in the Secret Service under your leadership. Based on the evidence, that's how we have to call it."

Members of Congress briefed by the agency apparently weren't told of the full extent of the breaches. And the Secret Service gave The Associated Press a statement incorrectly saying the intruder was not armed, and never corrected the release. Under questioning, Pierson said she saw the inaccurate statement before the agency put it out.

Details emerged only later. Among them: The recent intruder ran through the White House, into the East Room and near the doors to the Green Room before being apprehended. This, after he made it past a guard stationed inside the White House.

On the way to the East Room, the intruder would have passed a stairwell that leads to the first family's residence. It was unclear what security would have been in place to prevent Gonzalez from attempting to go up to the family quarters.

Pierson said Tuesday that the front door to the White House now locks automatically in a security breach. She said that on Sept. 19 a Secret Service guard was attempting to lock one of the doors manually when the intruder knocked the agent down.

Senate Judiciary Committee staffers who were briefed about the investigation by the administration a week after the incident were never told how far Gonzalez made it into the building, according to a congressional official who wasn't authorized to discuss the investigation and requested anonymity. The official said the committee later was told that the suspect had, indeed, made it far beyond the front door.

Pierson said there have been six fence-jumpers this year alone, including one just eight days before Gonzalez went over.

Pierson's predecessor, Mark J. Sullivan, apologized to lawmakers in 2012 after details emerged of a night of debauchery involving 13 Secret Service agents and officers in advance of the president's arrival at a summit in Colombia. Sullivan retired about 10 months later.

This story was originally posted at 4:12 p.m. It has been updated since then.

A man with a gun that the Secret Service did not know about rode in an elevator with President Obama during his visit to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta on Sept. 16.

Ebola Cured In 3rd American Patient

PROMOTED BY PRESSZEL.COM

The previously undisclosed breach, confirmed by two sources familiar with the case, raises new questions about the agency's ability to protect the president.

The incident, which took place three days before an intruder jumped a fence and sprinted inside the White House, involved a failure in Secret Service advance work to prevent an armed man from coming into close proximity with Obama while he was visiting the CDC to receive a briefing about the Ebola threat.

The threat to the president appeared minimal, but the incident alarmed agents on site and exposes a breakdown in several important Secret Service security protocols, the sources say.

The information comes the same day Secret Service Director Julia Pierson appeared before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and lawmakers publicly upbraided her for three hours about the Sept. 19 White House security breach, among other problems at the agency.

Lawmakers then questioned her during a session that was closed to the public Tuesday afternoon.

A source familiar with the case said Obama was in an elevator with his Secret Service security detail when a CDC security officer operating the elevator started taking photos and a video of the president with his phone and behaving unprofessionally.

Responding to the man’s behavior, one of Obama’s details contacted a member of the protective intelligence team, on-site detectives who handle suspicious-activity cases, to collect the man and interview him.

When he didn’t deny taking the photos, his CDC supervisor, who was on hand for the interview, said the behavior was highly irresponsible and told him to hand over his gun, shocking the Secret Service officers who were questioning the man.

Before the president travels anywhere, Secret Service agents make it their job to know who will have access to the president and anyone with a gun needs special clearance and may not be allowed to carry it when the president is onsite.

In addition to the Secret Service, only sworn law enforcement officers are allowed to be armed at a location where the president is visiting, the source said. Contract security officers are not allowed to be armed.

A Secret Service spokesman did not have an immediate response but said he would look into the matter and respond when he had more information.

Whatever else is going on at the Secret Service, they've got the Obama Administration scandal playbook down pat, which is really depressing.

1. Lie about what happened - They not only misled the public about how far Omar Gonzalez penetrated the White House, they apparently were less than forthcoming with Congress. According to CBS News, "a congressional official told the Associated Press that Senate Judiciary Committee staffers who were briefed a week after the incident by the Administration were never told how far Gonzalez made it into the building." At today's hearings, House Oversight chair Darrell Issa (R-CA) referred to the initial statement from the Secret Service as an "early false report."

That's putting it mildly. We went from an unarmed man who jumped the White House fence and got stopped at the front door to a man with a knife in his pocket penetrating the White House all the way to the Green Room, on a path that took him right past the stairs leading up to the First Family's residence. (By a stroke of luck, they had left the White House just a few minutes before the intrusion.)

2. Dribble out the truth - Even after that "early false report" started to fall apart, the Secret Service kept as much of the truth under lock and key as possible. We only know that Gonzalez was able to overpower one of the Secret Service agents in his path because a whistleblower told Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) about it. And only after the hearings were well under way did we learn the amazing detail, not provided willingly by Secret Service director Julia Pierson voluntarily through testimony, that Gonzalez was stopped by an off-duty Secret Service agent from the Obama daughters' security detail.
