Many thoughts, but frankly I just think we need to go back to classic lines, balanced proportions, solid conditioning and overall less size.

Who embodies this? Shawn Rhoden.

At this point, he is my favorite bodybuilder due to his great lines, proportions, conditioning and overall presentation. I think this is what bodybuilding should revert to.

I absolutely agree with you. The notion that bigger always is necessarily better is messed up. Having said this, it suspect that it is difficult for competitive bodybuilders to set themselves apart and standout among the crowd onstage. After watching the 2014 Olympia replays, I found it difficult to pick anyone out as a clear winner. The 212 group overall looked better to me than the big guys did. Maybe that's just a matter of personal taste or it is because I am personally all about being healthy and fit and the really big dudes don't necessarily look like healthy specimens.

I felt the same. The 212 group came in looking much better.

I'm from the mindset that the biggest an IFBB pro should get is by way of Shawn Ray proportions. Anything more than that and I don't think it looks too good.

Wanna stand out?

Learn how to do the mandatory poses correctly.

Develop a proper posing routine.

Learn to hold your gut in.

Cut off your 5 foot long ponytail

Smile.

Develop the small detail muscles so you look complete (calves, forearms, etc.).

Pointing at the audience with your index finger is NOT a pose.

Stop fucking citrus fruit.

Good conditioning, but a blocky waist.

Yeah.

He had great proportions and exceptional muscularity, but his mid-section did look as if it wasn't as sharp. Phil Heath had somewhat of the same phenomenon occurring. Throughout different times, it seemed as if his body started to retain fluid in his mid-section, thereby making his abs lose definition.

Well said, but many have been saying it for years. Would you put Cedric up there, too?

I think Cedric has very good proportions. I'm not the biggest fan of his calves, since he has high insertions reminiscent of Victor Martinez calves.

I would have Shawn Rhoden and Cedric up at the top 3.

And it varies from pose to pose.. a nice v-taper during a front lat spread, but yeah, a 'Phil version 2014-like' blocky waist on the right.

Except for that Chia Pet Turdsnake he carries around with him on his head, I think he has a decent physique.  Sleepy Rhoden is good too, but needs to at least look like he's paying attention rather than paying his dues to the train track blues.  Facially he looks like a dope fiend stuck in high.

I would prefer a more Zane-ish look or for that matter, Paris.  But then any step considered backwards by the Schmoes that "judge" these things would definitely be a step in the right direction.

I'd have put 2007 Wolf up there to complete the trio, even with his flaws. But his body has deteriorated since.

'Chia Pet Turdsnake', LOL! I will prob see him again in December and inform him about 'The -brutal- Scott' ;D
More and more competitions have a 'classic bodybuilding' class with a weight limit, based on someone's length. I think it's just a matter of time before this class will be added to the Mr 'O.
