Its not like you get disability or you dont. They have ratings from 10 to 100 based on how badly your damaged. Someone gettin 10% for hurt hearing, for instance, isnt getting a living wage for the rest of their life.

Military disability is there to compensate you for bodily harm that has occured during service that can affect your normal life, it has next to nothing to do with whether you can work or not.

But has Navy Mike really sustained any disabilities during his service?  Sure seems like a huge stretch to me.

The whole Navy Mike thing is ridiculous. He got injured, its in his records and they went through the procedures to figure out what he was due. The problems he faces now are likely to get worse. He's not just being compensated for now but when he's 65. We had a guy in my last unit that was still on active duty with a 90% disability from the Navy. He got out was fucked up...and came back in the army. He still did a full PT test. While he was out he wrote THE book on how to get the most out of the VA. Its on amazon. The dude will be fine until he's 50 and then need two full knee replacements ...new hip and back shit. Unless you understand the system you don't have perspective.

I know youre giving him shit about his getting military disability, but dont. Everyone tries, and they should. The military beats the shit out of your body (especially if youre in a line unit), and those programs exist for a reason.

My grandfather has 100% disability from the Navy, he contracted cancer from agent orange in Vietnam, also has hearing loss, joint damage, etc.

Another friend i know has 40% disability from joint damage from running and humping with packs. They basically say the disability is the mikitary saying 'thanks for letting us fuck your body for the last 4-30 years"

I understand the system fully well actually.  Its not intended to be abused which is why their fraud department is massive, although understaffed.

Also, nothing magic happens when you join the military.  Its just a collection of thousands and thousands of different jobs that gay people, women and men and even undocumented immigrants seeking citizenship can do.

Back to this thread, the family and friends I know that have served were in combat situations and fortunately came out unscathed.  Although, the riggers of their service did take a physical toll; yet, they chose not to file for disability.   I can't say whether or not they should've considered it though.
