Also, nothing magic happens when you join the military.  Its just a collection of thousands and thousands of different jobs that gay people, women and men and even undocumented immigrants seeking citizenship can do.

This is true.  The military offers all sorts of folks all kinds of work opportunities, but for those that face real combat they tend to have more unique, lasting experiences that often leave physical and mental marks.

The overwhelming majority don`t face "combat".

I agree, but many do encounter a very rigorous, physical lifestyle even without the stress of combat.

I'm not naive though.  I realize there are folks that attempt to scam the system, but I don't lump everyone into that basket because of the folks that do.

My body is torn up from years of physical activity and I can't do certain things I could only 10 short years ago, but that doesn't mean I can't still be active despite being physically limited and unable to do certain things.

I do think those receiving disability should be reevaluated every couple of years.  Some folks are able to rehabilitate themselves while others will attempt to remain active yet struggle and struggle for rest of their days without the hope of full or even partial recovery.  Some should have disability benefits reduced or removed and others should continue for as long as funds as available....I have no problem with that.

So what was your military service experience like?

Ha......in any event unless you've served you really have no idea. Military service  mostly blows. Getting shot at is overrated...shooting back is not. I've been doing it for almost 22 years.....you have to know going in its going to suck and make the best of it.

I find amusing that you and others would probably throw a tantrum if they saw some black 26 year old kid, competing in back to back bodybuilding shows, bragging about all the pussy they got in the club dancing, hiking up mountains and then coming home to a fat "disability" check, 90 percent at that.

I had typed a response about my personal experience with military service, but decided to delete it and won`t bother with it.

I believe that people that need help should be given help and that help may also entail helping them along a longer road where they are able to fully provide for themselves again.  Some type of annual evaluation or 2-year evaluation should be in order....just an opinion....may already exist, I don't know.

Regardless, even the disabled and poor should enjoy a happy lifestyle even if it is limited.  If someone on disability is now able to climb a mountain most likely they're physically rehab'd and should come off the benefits.....of course this is an extreme example.

That's too bad about your response.  Was hoping for some real life insight.

No ones saying what hes actually got the disability for.

Also, thats not his fault. Thats up to the person screening him.

Fyi, your grandfather could go into the VA TODAY and gwt disability for injuries suffered during his service.

My grandfather just recently went to from 90% to 100%. Also, he has hearing loss, damaged joints, turned down a purple heart, and experienced severe PTSD (which they tacked on just a few years ago, giving him the extra 10%).

The system is at fault if they didnt screen him accurately.

The system exists to compensate people who have damaged their body in service to their country, at differing levels.

Thats why people apply, because theyre encouraged to.

Sorry, Competitive, club dancing, mountain hiking, job-hunting bodybuilder is not the first thing that comes to my mind when someone tells me they are 90 Percent disabled.

Hows that his fault? What does that have to do with him? Also, if his injury rates 90%, how is that his fault?

Seems like your beef is with the screener, not Mike.

Someone ran in the back of my car a few months ago, a young girl about 20, she was in bits and had cracked her head on the windscreen, I and my partner were unhurt but we both suffered vehicle damage.

Now, I was well within my rights to put in claims for whiplash and various other fake injuries and hammer her insurance company
It would have fucked her insurance premiums up for years

Guess what I did?
I told her not to worry, took her details and got my car fixed and passed my mechanics name onto her so she could get hers sorted.
It cost £60 to fix my car, me and the mechanic spent 3 hours buffing it out and fixing the bulbs and lock.
She paid me the £60 and brought us round a nice thank you card and a bottle of wine.

Thats what honest people do.

TA your assuming he's defrauding the system. I'm gonna say after 9 years of service he has issues.  The way things are now if you don't document and then get your cash, the VA will screw something up and you'll never get what you are entitled to. His command ensured that he went to all his appointments and he got what he got.

ROFLMAO!!!!

You are joking right?  Entitlements? I really wish some undocumented Mexican got to Navy_Mike`s job before he did.  Those type of people don`t complain at all.

He is not 3 times my size and I am a lot stronger than him anyways.  Plus I am not 90 percent disabled.

Also, I'm glad you pay for insurance but are afraid to use it.

Perhaps people might want to consider a somewhat different viewpoint about this movie and Chris Kyle.

Didn't Eastwood do Unforgiven and Gran Torino?

Those weren't bad movies?

Unforgiven was fantastic, bro. Mystic River, too. He's directed some real gems (Outlaw JW, Pale Rider, Bird, MDB, Letters from Iwo Jima, Changeling), but he's got some bombs, too. Hoping this will be another gem.
