He's expressed interest in the role, so it's WB/DC's call to pull the trigger.  For their universe, the JS Lantern is a better fit than the comic Ryan Reynolds type Lantern . He'd kill a Green Lantern Trilogy if it were done right.

The problem with the Bond franchise is that it is too campy. That is one of the reasons why I think that went with Daniel Craig and made it a tad more "realistic". Some super spy who manages to be high profile, does the job and gets the girl just doesn't fly in today's world.
The Bourne franchise is where it is at.

Wrong.  It's presentation of the special effects.  They have to stay away from Lantern forming toy trains and bullshit with the ring.  It needs to be more like a blaster or a laser that rips through anything in the form of a ray.  JS with this type of effects would work.  and keep it serious.

Denzel is to American.  I don't think he could pull it off.  Elba has the British elements the character is known for.

They alter the character to fit the actor they cast.  They turned the comedy up for Roger Moore because he is such a good comedian.  Try to see some “Maverick” episodes from the 50’s.

  In the “Cannonball Run” he plays “Seymour,”  a crazy Jewish clothing manufacturer who underwent surgery to make himself look like “Roger Moore” and he goes around impersonating him.
