That is what happens when you take steroids, the muscles gets stronger faster then the joints and the ligaments do so you end up tearing something eventually.

Think it has more to do with the micro tears that prolonged roid use leaves in the muscles.

Its scary to think that u can tear a muscle so easily at that stage of the game
Wait for it....

This is probably true.  I don't see how difficult it could be to prevent injuries.

Kevin Levrone tore his pec doing warmup flyes with 60-pound DBs.
This is sad but true.

Kev stated this in FLEX.  I think I have the issue around here somewhere. If not, I'm sure someone else does.  The exact quote was something like "Levrone tore his pec doing pre-warmup deep flyes with 60 lb DBs, remarkably light for him".

I'm pretty sure Levrone can bench 575 x 3reps. He benched something like 430 pds naturally. He's got a bench presser's physique! Plus I just saw his video and he did like 5 reps with 5 plates on each side. Never doubt Hollywood!
At his best close, but not now. Have you seen him recently? He lost a lot of weight, man.

I just flipped thru the Nov 93 issue.  They mention it as having just happened (and he guest posed at the NOC shortly after tearing it), so I'm guessing that writeup on the incident is in either the Sept 93 or Dec 93 issue of FLEX, if anyone here has it to scan.

I remember reading it pretty vividly, as Levrone was my hero and it was the first time I'd ever read about an injury like that.  I'm sure one of our mag collectors, arvilla, bix, someone, has it onhand.

That's what he said at first. Then he changed his story and said he was benching 600 or something.
I remember him saying that also
I saw Vic about 3hrs ago in the gym,  he looks very huge and pretty tight for two weeks out. If he keeps it up he'll be very hard to beat.  The intensity he was trainig with, I doubt very much he tore his pec.

My prediction of Branch mr. o in the future only looks better now
As the president of Team Warren, this was the first thing i thought of, but personaly, i think warren could beat a completely healthy vic any day of the week and should have at the O last year.  Warren will be Mr. O.

Levrone got his pec repaired really good - It doesn't even show IMO - I wonder how bad Vic's tear is and if he will get a good repair job (probably not) - his pal Valentino will just tell him how to even it out with Synthol.  BTW - warming up on flyes with 60's means you are probably pretty strong!

Yes.. it's true. Big Victor has a pec tear and from what I understand it could be serious but only Vic himself knows. It happened while performing 400lbs Bench Press and from the looks of that weight, I would say that it could be pretty damn serious. All the best to him and a speedy recovery. He'll be floating around the expo from what I hear, so you'll get to question him then.
HOS
How do you know this, just curious. like I said I saw him a few hrs ago training the same way he's been training for the last several months. I spoke to him and he told me he's two weeks away. that would be prety odd for someone who tore his pec.
Why woud he still be training if he tore his pec ???. If he did, it must have been awhile ago because he hasn't missed more than a day in the gym in quite awhile

240 you are right about that. It also featured in the M&F. I think it was sept.'93, pictures of the tear, the whole operation story and even a picture of Kevin and his dokter shaking hands...
It was the first operation that was performed in a manner that there would be minimum visual damage so Kevin was kind of a tru-out back then, although what did he had to loose, his WHOLE pec was torn so it was either that or end of carreer.
Hopefully Victor has found a proactive doktor too, all the luck to him....

Jesus, if this is truth its really shocking!!! I have shitty genetics and im really weak, but even i do flyes with more than 60!!! And it was in his warmup!!!
So this way for you to tore a muscle you dont need exactly to be moving monter weights... :o

im pretty sure kevin said that he heard something in his pec the previous chest workout before the pec tear when he was benching, but ignored it then actually tore it.

If levrone was going DEEP on chest DB flyes, I can see 60 pounds tearing a pec. He could have been moving too fast, too deep, allowing a bounce, or like someone said, aggrivating something that was hurt the last chest workout (although wearing a pec tear for a week sounds fishy)

Thats all? Isn't he used to that kind of weight? Man thats pathetic only 400!  ;D

It's no so much the weight, it's the form he used.  I've seen guys tear pecs warming up with 135.  On the same note, I've never seen a bodybuilder look as good, no mater what he does after a pec tear.  Too bad for Vic.  This could be the end of His O hopes.
