Why/how is it good for the skin?

ice cold water

1. overly hot water can overheat the skin/cause dryness
2. cold ass water temporarily tightens skin as it constricts blood - does make smaller

I don’t have cold water where I am. My water is heated up from the sun. I wish I had cold water. I sweat getting out of the shower after having a hot shower in summer. My only relief is to stand naked in front of my air conditioner naked. I hate my summer in Australia!!!!

This vision will aid me tonight.

Pretty sure your shower has less than the virility of a 21-yr-old. Punk.

I had a membership at the great old downtown Houston YMCA...They had a chilled water shower...You stepped out of the ablution shower onto a mat and pulled a chain and chilled water came down, I loved it.

I was forced to take a cold shower a few months back when my boiler gave in. I actually enjoyed it and have only taken cold showers since. Quite refreshing and really wakes you up.

It hurts like a son of a bitch but after you feel really good
due to the effect on brain neurotransmittors. I know some people get "addicted" to bathing in lakes during the winter here in scandinavia.

If talking science then the evidence of benefit from ice baths for athletes is pretty weak IIRC. But it's enough if it feels good.

never, why would you want to do something that apart from being incredibly uncomfortable has zero effect on you whatsoever.

It feels nice afterwards...you get a rush all over your body

Its a mental challenge...

It does make a small difference to recovery imo...

I've done obstacle course races where you have to jump in ice water and a lot of people freak out but it doesn't bother me.

You just get used to the inital shock factor...controling the breathing is the key to over coming it.

When that ice bucket thing was all the rage some lads on site did it with a JCB bucket - poor fuckers were hypoventilating as soon as the water hit them

cold showers are great, you dont need heating.

Great place, used to go there in the mid- eighties , and also the Presidents Health Club downtown houston, also no longer there.

100% truth on the mental part.

In general, people just don't like the feeling of being uncomfortable.  It's not that the shower, etc is causing them harm, it's just doesn't feel like they're used to, so they bail.

This is the case for many things.

Per Calvin's point though, I did have one jump into 30 degree ice water where I thought the signals to my hands from my brain were slowed a bit.....odd feeling.
