"Do what elite generational athletes do in particular Mike Tyson" is generally not a path to good health.

Plus a liquid diet for someone who loves to eat isn't going to work.

The other possibility, of course, is that you're being schmoed.  Has this individual fondled or attempted to fondle?  Poke, squeeze, caress, rub, or cup any portion of your person?

Cyp you should see what you're able to get him to do.

bro you might want to start him on a liquid diet for awhile and then maybe go vegan for awhile. I know Mike Tyson was almost 400 lbs at his worst and he went on a liquid diet for awhile and then started eating vegan and he lost about 100 lbs.

Would be a terrible idea for this guy I think, as he loves the process of actually eating/cooking/preparing etc - If I say to him, you're getting 6 shakes a day and nothing else, i'll have 350 pounds of corpse

Hahaha don't tempt me  ;D He is at his wits end - hence why I got involved

Maybe I could get away with getting him to eat his meals backwards, like breakfast before bed etc to 'confuse the metabolism'

just put him on a regular macro diet at first. if he goes 45/45/10 say 4-6 times a day he should lose weight just cleaning up his diet or you could make him try a keto diet maybe let him have a few days where he cycles some carbs are just put him total ketosis. either plan counting macros correctly or going on a keto diet he should lose some weight just cleaning up his diet, make him get some bloodwork maybe he needs a thyroid medication.

Yes it's important to keep the body guessing.

Almost as important as hitting the fibres from different angles bro.

if he likes rich foods, clean up the fat sources. coconut oil, cold water fish, etc. too bad about the avocado.

in addition to his weight, the killers are vegetable oils, high fructose sugars, processed meats, etc. you're actually quite lucky that he's able/willing and understands the value of quality ingredients. while cutting his calories is important, getting all the garbage out is also important for long term lifestyle change.

this way it's not just a 'diet'.

Good stuff.

Yep, the original 'preface' to the diet I wrote for him is more about looking at eating differently, as he needs a complete revolution in the way he sees things.

If he can stick it out the first few weeks, then it is an indication I can push him to what he needs.

Yepiddydoodah.

Trying to get his stomach used to receiving 500-600kcals of food per time, rather than 1000-1200 is going to be a big wake up call for him.

For sure, but there is some consolation........the first 50 pounds or so comes off comparatively fast as long as he can stay focused.............stay ing focused due to bad habits is the problem.

Happy Holidays Cyp!  ;)

Mild calorie restriction, slowly pulling out the worst foods. Buy him a food scale, and be firm with him about eating only measured amounts of food, and cataloging everything. The biggest thing with huge folks is that they don't have an accurate measure of food amounts, they think their little snack is #300 calories, meanwhile it's 3 times that.

Get him started on some low impact stuff, and hope for the best, it's a long road.

It also helps IME to actually make a few shopping runs with him. I sure you found that almost everything in his kitchen fell into the category of "loser" I believe every food can instantly be classified as a "winner" or a "loser".

If you can slowly fill his cupboards, pantry and refrigerator with "winners" he will be able to make the transition from eating like a fat person to eating like an athlete.

I've mentioned before I worked as a 1 & 2nd AD on season 3/4/5 of "The Biggest Loser" and the campus kitchen was always only filled with winners.

Add in daily cardio and then weights and things begin to change quite fast.

Good luck.

Cutting the carbs out of the diet, cuts the body fat. Works every time. No sugars, and no starches. You can't exercise away a lousy diet!

I agree with the one pound per week approach. It's obtainable and gives the person reasonable goals.

Does he have a spouse? If so hopefully she is on board or she can influence a failure. Also I would find out if an appetite suppressant like ephedra or hoodie works for him and then maybe incorporate the mental reset of how meals should be structured. For example when I helped my mother slim down, I told advised to adopt the "King, Prince, Pauper" method and no carbs after Prince (lunch). Unlimited veggies anytime of day and 3 pieces of fruit. Minimum 1hr of fast walking 6days a week.

She is 54yrs old and lost 28.5lbs in 3 months and still losing. Good on him trying to take his life back. At his age and at that weight he is a ticking timebomb.

...just my $0.02 man  good luck!

Cyp,
You are a wise and noble man, but you can't "save the world."

Don't take it personal if you can't help this man. Not everyone can "do it" no matter how much they want it.

I wish you both luck and success!!
